Right there, the top 8.

To me, the list seems skewed, saying that GTA III is more influential than say, Street Fighter II. I have a lot of qualms with the top 8 list, I think some shouldn't be on the list, while others are too high. I can name games that should be there, and so forth, but I want you guys to do so for me, maybe you'll change my opinion.

I will, however, say that Pokemon and Starcraft undoubtedly deserve on the list.

Thoughts?

thanks for sending me a broken link...

I have to say GTAIII is crazy overrated. It's not even in the top 10 influential games because Shenmue did it first yet never gets any credit. Yea it was bland and fairly boring but they did the whole open world thing first, GTA just made it more enjoyable, so I fail to see how that makes them in the top 8..seriously...

People don't remember Shenmue because it was on the Dreamcast.

Oh, and developers use those cinematic button presses WAY too much these days. It was good in Resident Evil 4, but now it's getting old.

Personally, I think games like Pong and Super Mario 64 belong in the top 8.

Tuppy frightens me with his knowledge of legacy technology.

Okay, now the link decides to work:
MGS: Fine, good choice since use of cinematics was new at the time
Mortal Kombat: YES. It helped make the ESRB it is now...and gave idiots like Jack Thompson jobs, so yes this is deserving
Guitar Hero: NO....well, not yet anyway. For all we know this could just be a passing fad for music games. If it lasts a few more years then
I'd say yes, but right now it's too early to tell so no.
Doom: Yes, dur, no poop, of course that'd be on this list
Sims: I suppose...I don't see how it's THAT influental but oh well...
Street Fighter 2: good gawd yes its the main reason we even have fighting games nowadays
World of Warcraft: Definately deserving...even though I hate the game...
GTAIII: As I said, no. It's influental, but THE most influental? Hell no, hell intercourse ing no...Shenmue did it first (just because it was on the dreamcast does not discredit it!), and the whole "it started a bunch of clones!" making it influental does not count. If that's the case Mario and Sonic should grab the top two spots because they cause countless ripoffs of the platformer genre in the 80's and 90's. Overrated and most certainly NOT the most influental. Top 25 sure, but no way in hell #1.

As Tuppy said, WERE IS SUPER MARIO 64!? We would still be stuck with 2.5D for action games if this game hadn't come along. It's much more influental than most games because certain properties of it's gameplay are STILL used to this day.
Other games that should have been in Top 8 besides GTA and Guitar Hero:
Super Mario Bros. 1
Goldeneye (face it, this game is the ONLY reason we have FPS's on consoles)
Pokemon
Final Fantasy 7 (despite it being insanely overhyped, it still made RPG's a viable genre to mainstream gaming like Pokemon did)
Donkey Kong (arcade)
