just because Microsoft doesnt own them, doesnt mean that they dont own majority share in the company, nor does it mean that they can't tell Bungie what they can and can't do. :|

Microsoft still owns part of Bungie and Bungie will continue to make games for Microsoft.

It would be cool if they went ahead and made Halo DS now but it would be bitter sweet because I really want any halo related games to stay on Xbox.

Halo isn't going to go to any console other than the XBox. It's Microsoft's flagship game, and is almost synonymous with the console. As long as they still have even a minor say in it, they'll keep it away from the opposition.
