A intercourse ing obesity tax.

"Governor David Paterson is proposing a tax of around 15 per cent in his budget in a two-pronged attempt to improve health and cut a $15 billion (£9.6 billion) budget deficit."

"By doubling the existing 7.5 per cent sales tax, Mr Paterson could bring in an extra $400 million (£256 million) to state funds."

"He is also expected to increase sales tax on luxury items such as furs and boats. Mr Paterson said he will not raise state income tax, adding: "You can't tax $50 billion (£32 billion) on New York's wealthiest residents. You are going to have to take it from other places and hopefully, if there were to be an income tax, it would be at the end of the process, not the beginning." "

Oh, sure. Don't tax the wealthy people, tax the "fat" people.

This is outrageous. Why in the world would someone even do this?

As much as I hate fat people, I have to agree. That's pretty tasteless.
"Hi, you're a fatass. Now give me money."
That's not how it works, Mr. Paterson.

But the thing is, it's not an obesity tax. It's a tax on soda, really. Soda isn't just for fat people, so even correctly-weighted people are getting slammed by this.

A twelve-pack of Coke is 6 bucks. 6 intercourse ing dollars. Milk is like 4.50, along with bread. It's completely ludicrous.

Looks like we have to start buying our soda from NJ now too.

And on the radio I heard it's going to be like 18% tax, and that they're doing something along the lines of making bottled items more expensive too, so have fun paying more money for your bottled water.(I could be wrong, I was half asleep listening to the radio =/)

There isn't a correct weight. That doesn't make any sense.

You're right, in a way. Correct Weight as in, not obese and not anorexic.

I heard about this earlier today, new york state is gonna raise the tax on soda and stuff, WHAT IF I'M HEALTHY AND NOT FAT, i still get ripped off. If you think about it, this is gonna make the price of everyday sugary crap alot higher, they had to pick new york out of 50 freakin' states, crap...

Tupin

If this is to prevent people from buying the products, it won't work.

A lot of major cities have similar taxes on things like cigarettes, but people still pay them. A pack of cigarettes costs $16 in Chicago, but I couldn't walk five feet without seeing someone smoking.

That n_gger tried to tax iTunes, hair cuts, and non-diet sodas as well.

I know a better way to cut our state deficit:

Cut the Assembly and Senate's salaries.  Hell, fire all of them.  They don't do anything.  Get rid of the ridiculous bureaucracy tie ups we have.  More taxes aren't going to fix things.

The reason no one stays in NY anymore once they finish school is because we have one of the highest tax rates in the country.

We also have the most taxes in general. I believe we have 170-180 or so taxes in all :3

Because the state follows the idea of "as long as we don't raise income taxes, we can tax anything and everything else."
