It appears to be a menu system where if you are stuck in a game, you can connect to the Internet and watch other people beat a certain part, or just skip the part all together, kind of like a DVD menu, much like they did in the new Alone in the Dark.

Strangely enough, this patent is not under Nintendo, but under Shigeru Miyamoto. Whether this is a new IP or something to be added to a series like Zelda remains to be seen, but it means something even if the hint videos and section selector menus aren't what it is.

Tuppy frightens me with his knowledge of legacy technology.

Why would it be a hit? I find it pointless, some people would just watch the video for everything and win like that, while some would just skip to the end.

Dude .

Macawmoses

That's kind of ridiculous, but at the same time....considering they make official guides, it's not terrible.

Still, I wouldn't use it....but I imagine many will.

JrDude

The only reason I'd use it is if something like Goron Hide & Seek (Majora's Mask) happened, and I had done it for a long ass time, so I'd skip it to get back to the fun.

Exactly... real gamers actually like a challenge. This just screams another attempt to please casuals and not giving people what they want. Back in the NES/SNES days if the game was hard and you couldn't beat it, TOO EFFING BAD! Are people today such pansies that they can't play a game without skipping parts? I miss when games were actually difficult X_X;;

*goes back to play Megaman 3, OoT, and F-Zero GX* so challenging yet so rewarding when you finally beat it

Captain Justice

wow thats gay.

Why even have a game if you can just skip all the hard parts

Yesterday, sort of. I was on the verge of crying. Why? I got into an argument with a couple other people from #nsider and it got me really upset. I didn't really cry much though

Because if you really want to be challenged, you won't skip the hard parts.

but if you don't want to be challenged don't bother with the darn game in the first place...play life sims or silly non-games like Wii Music

Gamers should not be lowered to make it so "accessable"...this is why TP, MP3, and Galaxy are no where near as good as their previous installments.

X-3

Doesn't really affect me, as I'll probably never end up using a feature like this.

I think the ability to skip stuff is stupid, though.

In theory, this patent should allow Nintendo to make their games accessible to less oriented gamers without insulting the more oriented ones.

Lotos

That's stupid.  They should instead let you have a save state like an emulator.  Mind if I make another thread for it, you know, for a thread +1 for the board?
