A few things:

-No wonder Obama is a chain smoker.

-I wish the man well, but I forsee him blowing relations with my Native land, simply for his reluctance to congratulate our PM, while McCain did it almost immediately.

-One of my teachers pulled me personally out of class to come watch the inauguration, because it was a big deal. However, it was reserved for kids he likes/have a clue.

-Even though it is sarcasm, I think the fact we're making a big deal out of a black man becoming president proves racism is alive and well. I didn't honestly identify by ethnicity until I went to public school.

How does that prove racism is still around.
If we see people as equals, regardless of skin color, etc. then why is it historic that it's a Black President? It's interesting, because women, blacks, etc. want to be viewed as equals, but the first thing they do when getting power is to tell everyone....keeping the racism alive themselves.

Racism or racially conscious?

Blacks have a long history, and they fought long and hard to win their freedom etc.
I say, we let them enjoy this, as they very well should. Just because we aren't 100% blind to color doesn't mean racism is thriving. You can't ask people, especially blacks, to just let go of the pride they have for their race and this achievement. You can't ask them, or any race for that matter, to just forget that race exists. It does exist, and it gives our world, and the US in general, a unique dimension. When black say that this is such a great thing, it doesn't sound like they are being racist. More like they are proud of how far they have come.

Racism to me is discrimination, of which we are doing a good job at stopping. One single color is boring.

I completely and fully disagree. Why should they have any more pride than anyone else? Because they overcame slavery that their own bretheren sold them for? Because of years of hardship in the US that members of every race face?

People want acceptance, but as long as we look at people by color, it won't ever happen. It just doesn't work that way. We can, though, learn that skin color is just something like eye color. As I said, up until public school, I never looked at anyone as "Asian" or "Black". There was no difference to me. It was Political Correctness that caused me to associate a difference.

Everyone has a heritage, and should be proud of it. Just because theirs happens to dote on the fact that for the first time we have a black president doesn't mean their reactions are unnecessary.

This is whether we like it or not a momentous and historic event.

But here's my final question. Does our looking upon other races as different really count as racism? They have different background than we do, different heritages... We should see that and respect it, but not assert that everyone is the same. We aren't, and as long as no one is being discriminated against for that then why strive for something you know is impossible?

Actually, I feel their reactions are unnecessary. If you want to be looked on as an equal, you don't go make a big deal over things. My point, feminism. If you want to be on par with males in everything, then you need to be able to carry weight; take a hit, etc. Chivalry is dead with equality.

You can call it historic all you want. Canada had a female Prime Minister, the other group that does a lot of whining for equality, and we didn't hype it up half as much as you lot did. If they are equals, then it is NOT momentous. There is no reason for it to be momentous if we are equal. Know what would be momentous? Someone with a massive mental disability attaining office that isn't Bush. Equals have no right to talk of their hardships.

And in my thinking, no. However, as long as we look at people as different heritage and race based on skin color, racism will be well founded. You're being taught to think of something as different. What is one of the lovely perks of being different? Rarely are they equal. I'd love to one day have skin color be comparable to hair or eye color, but it won't happen. In fact, it's going in reverse. HAIR COLOR IS BEING DISCRIMINATED WITH YA GINGER. Y'see, we as humans are sick monsters, but we could remedy it all by teaching that there is no difference, not focusing on how a man with a different skin color took to lead the United States.

hehe, just looking at it gives you a headache.

The gist of it is:

A real feminist doesn't even use men as a comparison, as a ruler.  A real feminist strives to become something completely different in their own right, without comparison to men.

oh, and also that women should be surgically deflowered at birth so that their virginity cannot be something used to gauge their worth.

Eh... I can hardly agree to that.

You can't teach people that color means nothing without destroying history. Slaves were black. Then, they strove for equality. They attained it, and it is a triumph for their color. That happened, and teaching that it didn't seems also like discrimination. The point of the past is to teach us discrimination by color is wrong. By either not teaching that these things happened, or trying to drown it out with the fact that "Color means nothing" your tainting the message.

And forgive this next little bit if it seems childish... but did you ever read a book called The Giver? There is no color, no discrimination, no freedom. All to create a perfectly equal and flawless world... People are actually bred to be color blind.
It was really quite bleak. Humans, monsters as we may be, keep life interesting by the differences between us. By teaching that these things don't exist, your almost sucking the life out of the world. As I said earlier... one color is boring.

And I won;t touch the feminist thing, I feel race and gender arguments are separate.

in The Giver, it WAS a perfect world for those who complied to it.  The boy did not, as he stopped taking his medicine.
