During the Video quiz on SM64 board, someone found a secret 1-up in Bowser in the Fire Sea that no one found, that not even the guides had. It's an obscure 1-up, since you need to get 3 invisible flags to get said 1-up.
I might make a video on it. Until then, discuss.

I honestly don't buy it. People scour the games for secrets....so for one to take this long is a tad unbelievable.

I think I got one of the flags once... but it was a while ago.

According to the thread, he discovered the way to get it through a friend who was a FAQ writer who was playing with Toad Tools. Or something.

Ameba: "Actually, I didn't discover this 1-up. Brightguy did a long time ago. xD

When Toad's Tool (the SM64 level editor) appeared, Brightguy used it to search for every item in the game, just to check if he got everything covered in his guide. He then posted saying that he had found an obscure 1-up in BitFS, and that it was the only one in the entire game he had missed.

While reading this task, I somehow remembered Brightguy saying this (I don't know why, it happened a long time ago :P), so I opened the game in Toad's Tool and searched for this 1-up. It's actually very simple: There are 3 checkpoints that you must activate to trigger the 1-up. The first one is located over the first wire mesh platform after the 2 Bullies, and to activate it you just have to walk through it normally (1:47 in my video). The 2nd and the 3rd one are somewhere in the air. :S I activate the 2nd one at 2:01 by waiting for the platform to get to its lowest point, and the 3rd one is activated at 2:12.

I know my explanation sucks xD, so if you didn't understand you can look it up using Toad's Tool."

Pretty interesting. Also, I am lazy and don't feel like quoting regularly.

Intriguing.  I don't doubt it...it seems Mario games have a history of having these really strange hidden items.

For example, does anybody remember the secret book of Super Mario Sunshine?  That was one (two) interesting thread(s) on oldsider.

Yah, I do. To this day, no one has gotten to it though.
To be heard, speak up. To be seen, stand up. To be appreciated, shut up.

Hm. Never knew that.
I should try it sometime.
