QuoteAccording to Pocket Gamer, who cite a developer working on the hardware, an all-new PlayStation Portable will be out and on store shelves before Christmas.

This source repeats earlier rumours surrounding the design of the system - such as the fact it features a sliding screen (which reveals game controls) and also boasts touchscreen capabilities - while also mentioning some other stuff, such as the release window and the fact that, once you slide the controls out from under the screen there will be a D-pad, face buttons and two thumbsticks.

Yup. Two thumbsticks. Finally.

As of writing, Sony have yet to respond to requests for comment. Though you have to wonder, with the rumours increasing in number and gradually zeroing in on a common set of features, whether Sony will have something to reveal at E3 in a couple of months.

Interesting. I knew it would be in the works eventually, but I wasn't expecting some of the features it will supposedly have, like the sliding screen and touch screen. Thoughts?

If it has a good set of games this could be a very good system since they're finally getting the controls right.
Besides, we all knew Sony would make a PSP2 eventually.

Tupin

Wait, is it a new system or a redesign?

I'm only getting it if it's the former...

new system entirely, not a rehash with some updated features like a CERTAIN handheld that really isn't worth the money.
Different control setup as well as a feature that can actually change gameplay in the touch screen (it helped the DS didn't it?).
I'm assuming it'll also have a hardware redeseign as well, but I guess we gotta wait till E3 as well.

Light

If I had the money and the grade point average, I might want to get it. Still, it interests me, much like any other new game system.
Holy crap all my sigs were always poop. Best leave this space alone.

I imagine it'll flop like its predecessor. It's just going to take DS innovations, and wreck them.

But hey, that's just from the guy who has had a PSP since day 1.

The few games that worked well on the system were a lot of fun IMHO. Problem was that the software was "blech" and no third party is willing to go against the DS since it's printing it's own money (although honestly I can't blame them, Nintendo pretty much has a monopoly on the entire handheld industry)

Tupin

Nintendo went without serious competition for over a decade.

The problem with the PSP was most developers just wanted to make scaled down PS2 games.

Oh, and about Nintendo, they chose a bad time to launch a redesign, the DS will have been on the market in one way or another for over half a decade by the time the new PSP comes out.

I'll get it if they manage to get the same depth of homebrew as they have on the current PSP. Seriously, I only own 4 PSP games (which are fun...) but I've stuffed 5 systems' worth of game ROMs onto it so it's a great way for me to have portable emulation.

I seriously do like the current PSP, but I guess an upgrade wouldn't be all that bad...
Become a Failbook fan: Victory Road :3

The Game Boy Pocket.
Put it in your back pocket.
Sit down and it breaks.

Zero

The only reason I got a PSP was because they're easy to hack.

I don't need warranties for consoles that aren't from Microsoft lol

Doodle

I figured there would be a PSP2. But the touch screen I wasn't expecting.
Maybe this is Sony's way of trying to up the competition with the DS.

It'll be fun to see how Sony will pull it off.
YEAH

Not the 3000 model ;__;

And yeah, sounds pretty cool.
I just hope it has internal memory.

Why void your warranty on an experimental product?

The Riddler

That design is old. I definitely remember seeing it ages ago. Is the source they're using reliable?

The picture may be old, but there's definitely one on the way.
