No, not the Dreamcast 2, a cooperative project between Sega-Sammy and the main Sega dev team themselves, scheduled for release Winter 2010.

I personally don't think it's a new system, I think it's new arcade hardware. A new Sega system would be awesome, though.

The Sega 512X.

But I want my DC2 ;_; *continues to brood about SEGA's downfall after going 3D party*

I heard Macintosh bought Sega, so a new system is possible.

No, if Sega was bought out by Apple, it would be much bigger news.

Like I said, this is probably going to be an arcade hardware system like Noami. If it's actually a consumer system, it will be the cheapest available, be in HD, and compete with the Wii's successor.

I'd really like that ;_;
Sad part is that SEGA (at least back in the day) was actually more creative than Nintendo was. If their studio has even half the talent there was during the DC, I can only imagine what system they could make with something akin to the Wii.

The best part is that whatever they are making, they are making it like an arcade machine. SEGA's arcade games are the only things in the company that have been consistently good, and that's the thing they are focusing on.

Of course, we're american, so we'll never see any of those neat things. I hate how our arcades disappeared. I met a guy at Momocon who spend a semester in Japan, and they had these massive MMO Gundam 80 player games. It sounded awesome ;_;

Ever heard of Dave and Busters? They actually get brand new arcade games there, I think they might have Street Fighter IV.

All the D&B's near me are terrible. They have some decent arcade games, but nothing spectacular. In Vegas I've been to a GameWorks which as awesome, they had all the big games and such. They even had an original arcade machine of Sonic the Fighters!

I just realized, if Sega were to do this, they would make Sony and Nintendo so mad.

Not really Microsoft, a strangely odd amount of former Dreamcast developers went to develop the Xbox and 360. In fact, the original Xbox was supposed to be able to play Dreamcast games. Sadly, their relationship did not help the Xbox in Japan. People there supported the Dreamcast like Sega never stopped making it.

Retailers in Japan would be quick to restock Sega consoles. Keep in mind this was a country in which the Saturn was as popular as the Playstation, and the Dreamcast was supported until 2007.

Indie developers still make games for the DC every now and again because it's so easy to code. Since SEGA games (overall) have been selling well, and EA being the money grubbers they are (many cite EA not supporting the DC as one of the reasons it failed here), it should do reasonably well stateside. I know it'd make a lot of gamers happy.

EA not supporting it and making the games so easy to pirate were the main reasons it failed, that and Sony lying about the PS2. (Did you know there was actually a rumor that they couldn't be sold in in the Middle East because they were so powerful that they could help launch missiles?!)

Near the end of the DC's supported life, they became really spiteful. SEGAGAGA is a prime example of this. They hated having to leave the market, but the PS2 ruined them.

Oh, and did I mention that they replaced Sega of America's president the day before the Dreamcast launched and the new one didn't take over until two months after it came out?

This is why you can't have corporate wigs be in charge of entertainment companies.

If only there was a new one.
