Taken from Kotaku:
QuoteSega continues to milk their blue hedgehog for all he's worth, with the announcement of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, which takes the world's fastest video game character and puts him in a car.

Sonic & Sega All-Star Racing, due out in 2010 for the Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo DS, is just what it sounds like. Much like Sega Superstars Tennis, the game gathers characters from Sega's most popular franchises and pits them against each other in a race to the finish line. Unlike other kart racing titles, Sonic and friends aren't limited to cars, with characters flying planes or racing motorcycles, which seems completely unfair to me, but there you go.

Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing is no ordinary racing game. Its huge variety of characters and vehicles, plus the ability to play both online and off set it apart from other games of this type" commented Gary Knight European Marketing Director, SEGA Europe Ltd. "The team have pushed the boundaries on what you would normally expect and created a different and unique party racing title whereby you really can't take anything for granted!

I'm actually willing to give this title the benefit of the doubt. I actually enjoyed Sega Superstars Tennis, and while some may rail about mishandling the Sonic property, this is exactly the sort of thing Nintendo has been doing with Mario for years. Our own personal feelings about the Sonic character aside, Sega is still a business, and if it sells, then by all means sell it.

Well, I have to say, the screens and the video do look nice. D:
Maybe this could be a decent game by Sega. With the three vehicle options, it kind of reminds me of Diddy Kong Racing.
YEAH

Tupin

I'll admit, Sonic's car looks awesome.  D=

1. A blatant Mario Kart / Diddy Kong Racing clone
2. Quit milking Sonic, there is a reason people are tired of seeing him.
3. Sega, you ALREADY TRIED THIS. Remember Sonic Drift? IT WAS HORRIBLE
4. Sonic in a car under ANY circumstance is stupid. Hell, at least Sonic R was a good idea on paper...
5. Shadow is totally getting the motorcycle
6. SEGA, focus on making a GOOD 3D Sonic game please!

You know, it would pretty unfair if Sonic ran on foot. At least with him in a car there's a chance Robotnik might win.

Nayrman

but it's the antithesis of what Sonic was made for X_X;;

It's like the spring power up in Mario Galaxy. Mario ALREADY jumps, making a power up to enhance the jumping is just stupid X_X;;

Yeah but, it's a kart racing game. Everyone has to be in a Kart.

...or a plane, motorcycle, bike, hovercraft, Fish, Duck, or UFO.

Anyway, I have incredibly high doubts about this game. Especially because it reminds me of Diddy Kong Racing, one of my least favorite games of all time.

*you seem to have missed the point entirely... *

Sonic can run faster than any car... leaving the idea inherently stupid...

He's too fast. Way too fast for everyone else, which would make a racing game with Sega characters pointless, since if the players want to win all they have to do is pick Sonic. If they some how slowed him down in a way that it would make since to sonic fans, the game could be fair play. So, they put him in a car.

It makes more since than Sonic foot racing Mario, at least...

Looks at Sonic R.
If they did all Sonic characters, foot running is possible. Besides, who said Sonic couldn't run? He'd have the best top speed but the lowest weight since he isn't in a car.
Also, AiAi/Monkey Ball characters can run in their hamster balls and go fast in that, and NiGHTS could fly letting it go faster.
There is no reason to do stupid things when a perfectly acceptable alternatives exist.

Looking at it that way I, they could have had some characters on foot and some in a kart or something(wait, does a hamster ball count as a vehicle?)...I think Sega just wanted to put everyone in vehicles.

Like I said, foot characters could have more top speed, but far less weight. Making them easy to knock around. I actually think it's a good dynamic, because characters like Sonic and Knuckles in vehicles is just plain silly...
Again, Sonic R may have played poorly, but in all honesty it had the best idea going forward.

Tupin

Sonic R was what the reviewers would call a "mixed bag". The concept, gameplay, and graphics were there, (the Saturn wasn't made to be a 3D machine) but the execution of it all was so poor.

Hey, at least they are actually making the vehicles based on the characters, Sonic Drift 2 was just plain karts.

This is Sonic and other Sega characters in a racing game.
Not every Sega character has super fast speed.
They all need a vehicle. Sonic (or other Sonic characters) can't be the only ones without vehicles. It wouldn't look right at all. :\

like a lot of things SEGA does, the idea was great, the execution was poor. The drift games were terrible, and dude, it looks like a blatant Mario Kart rip-off. X_X;;

Why do we need the other SEGA characters again? Besides Monkey Ball and NiGHTS, does anyone else really even qualify at this point? @_@;;

Besides, it's like Mario and Sonic at the Olympics. The idea just does not work... look at how annoyingly dumb that game was. But then again, SEGA doesn't care about good games anymore as long as it makes money.
