any sort of awards for tv/music/movies are (imho) REALLY dumb.
Why?
Ones that are voted on: People always choose the dumb, overrated ones that don't deserve the praise they get, or just choose the blatant eye candy actors/actresses

Ones that are done by "academy" (a.k.a. the oscars): usually a bunch of grumpy old people too caught in their old timey ways to reward anything new or different unless it's so popular they'll never get away with giving it to someone else. (like how Watchmen won't even be considered for picture of the year on a frankly slow year only because it's a superhero movie).

*prepares for flames... mostly by JrDude who'll miss the point entirely*

The Academy Awards and Golden Globes are okay, but they're usually highly predictable and unfair. Seriously, if Ponyo isn't nominated for at least one award this year, I will bawwww.

Tony's are win. With those, it actually isn't a popularity contest.
