except that I game/program/write poop while in bed, holding the laptop up on my knees. a huge fan would get in the way of this.

anyways, I found out the problem. The problem is that the fan turns off entirely until shutdown if the computer goes into sleep mode. I've just modified settings so that the computer never sleeps. -_-

Protip: Don't bias. I've had my Dell for about 6 or 7 years now and the only real problem I have with it is I'm running out of memory. I've played games on it, including but not limited to WoW, FFXI, and Counter Strike; run picture and video editing programs, and use it for every day internet surfing and instant messaging.

no dell that my family has had has lasted longer than 3 or 4 years. it's all hardware problems.

also, the IT department that I work with just laughs when they see a dell, because they know how easily they break down :|
