About a month ago, I signed up for the Gamestop Edge card, 15 dollars a year for discounts on games and a one year subscription to Electronic Gaming Monthly. They gave me two copies of the magazine in the store and said 11 more would come in the mail.

I'm never told when I get mail at my house, so tonight, when I was in the bathroom I opened up the magazine drawer hoping to find something to read. There are two magazines with my name on them, and the first one has a big sticker note on it.

The note reads: "This note is to inform you that Electronic Gaming Monthly has ceased publishing with the January 2009 issue. The balance of your paid subscription will be fulfilled with Maxim."

So now, I'm getting Maxim for a year instead of EGM.
I'm not complaining, the first issue has Jennifer Love Hewitt on the cover and I love her.

Has anyone here ever ordered something, or bought something, and got something different or unexpected instead?

Another semi-related story with me is, a friend of mine had his Xbox360 destroy his Rock Band 2 disc. He e-mailed a request for a new disc, and they sent it to him for free... but accidentally sent two copies. He gave me the extra for nothing. Sweet deal.

QuotePublication of "EGM" was suspended on January 6, 2009, following the acquisition of the online element of the 1UP network by Hearst Corporation.
It was announced that the January 2009 issue would be the final issue of EGM.
On May 29, 2009, "EGM" founder Steve Harris announced that he has acquired print and online publishing rights for the magazine and plans to relaunch it in the second half of 2009.

Lotos

I once got the Pokemon Colosseum game disc instead of the guide book from some online store.  $30 gain for me ^_^

Wabba

I ordered a tales of symphonia guide years ago and they sent me a guide AND a new copy of the game.

Amazon told me to just keep it. :)

Captain Justice

good deal for you Maxim > EGM.

and no, I've never had any good or bad mix ups with online ordering.

Yesterday, sort of. I was on the verge of crying. Why? I got into an argument with a couple other people from #nsider and it got me really upset. I didn't really cry much though
