Extremely frustrated when they play Mario 64? Is it just me or is that game really hard?

Lotos

I used the moon jump GameShark cheat, that made it pretty fun.

It might just be you. Take advantage of the easy levels.

Are you trying to beat the game or get 150 stars?

I have already beaten the game. I'm going for 150 stars right now. One of the things that annoys me is the camera. It flies to the worst places when you have the highest chance of falling to your doom.

While Mario 64 is certainly more difficult than Sunshine and Galaxy, it is not terribly difficult until you get to the arbitrary 100 coin stars, which can be a pain. Although, they are terribly difficult save for a few levels.

I know Mario 64 like the back of my hand I've played it so much though. Come time to record the 100% playthrough for Brain Scratch Comms, it will be the sixth time I've gone and completed the entire game.

I've had issues with it on and off over the years. There was a time I had it pretty down pat, but now I'm afraid it'd kick my ass. Actually, that's a good thing.

Not exactly.  I get extremely frustrated when my brother erases all of my 100% files and I have to go back and do everything over. If I don't, I won't be able to sleep at night.   :(

But yes, there are some parts that can make you want to punch someone (more specifically, my brother).  I remember collecting 100 coins for certain levels.  I just don't have that kind of patience.  Some levels don't have that many spare coins lying around, and if you make a big enough mistake you could end up running out of coins when you're just a few away from 100.  Or, you could have like 95 and then die.  Which would result in you having to start over, and I would immediately resort to punching my brother.

Other than the 100 coin stars, the game itself is pretty easy.  I like how there aren't really any hints as to where you need to look for those extra secret hidden stars.  In Galaxy, there are always those little hints on the star select screen, which takes away the fun in searching every nook and cranny of each level for hidden stars.  Oh, and I'm not sure if you're talking about the DS version or the original, but the original has 120 stars.

Nayrman

Yes, the original had 120 Stars, the DS remake had 150 (Bowser even remarks about the number change in the DS version once you've gotten all 150). The DS extra stars were no challenge what-so-ever.

Only the 100 coin stars are particularly difficult in 64. I REALLY hate the one in the Dorie level (the black puddle level as I call it, I can never remember the darn name). If you don't get ALL of the blue coins in the gas chamber area, it is not possible to get 100 coins.

Galaxy was just beyond easy. Even the 100 coin challenges were made painfully easy by making them appear in the level and not just be in the normal coins.

Would you still recommend Galaxy despite the drop in difficulty?

Well sure, but don't expect any challenge...

Nayrman thinks he passed it and got bored because he's a "pro" at it.

Galaxy is recommendable. There are certain challenges in the game as well and it'll keep you busy for a time. ;)

I 100% both quests in three days... and it only took my that long because I stopped when I felt I was getting too far. (Besides, it's hard to not consider yourself pro at something you've been doing for 15 years XD )

I'd like to point out that I've never said it was a bad game XD

Macawmoses

Yeah, Galaxy is still recommended, even though it has certain issues with giving too many lives, among other things. It proved to be one of the best Platformers of this generation, nonetheless.
