Since E3 has just passed, I doubt we'll get anything substantial from Nintendo for a while.
However, in a recent interview Reggie basically goes on to say the Wii Vitality will "wow" people and that we have know idea how it can be used until we "get our hands on it".

So Reggie, do you want to show us a tech demo? No? Gameplay footage? No? Not even saying a particular game is being made? Seriously?

Reggie, don't make baseless comments unless you actually have something to show. Basically the "put up or shut up" routine works here. Besides, we all know you're not going to bad mouth it. You work for the company making it. I'm sick of this overly positive PR when there is legitimate reason to be worried at this point. (the worry being that Nintendo has officially lost their minds).

I love the part where he says people were skeptical of the Balance Board and that now millions of people are using it. Reggie, you do know the VAST majority of people using WiiFit are the casuals and I don't know a single person in real life who bothered to buy that worthless weight scale.

Yea, no new info shown Reggie, I still remain the ultimate skeptic.

Laugh at Reggie's ineptitude of getting people excited and talk about the Wii Vitality whether you love it, like it, or hate it (me).

Unfortunately, full judgement is used when the product is fully done. I think he doesn't want to show us a demo of it because it's in early development. If he HAD to demonstrate something, then that would mean the product is ready to get out to be selled, in which case is not completed yet.

Also, just wait.

Nayrman

I just hate it when Nintendo (and all companies for that matter) go out and say "It'll be good!" and then turn around and show nothing to prove that it will, in fact, be good.
It's an entirely pointless statement if you have nothing to show for it.

And no, I won't wait. I still think it's the dumbest idea for a videogame ever. (and I've seen SegaGAGA)

Nayr, Nayr, Nayr...

This is what we call, "Keep them guessing"
It is used to make people anticipate and wonder what will/is going to happen with said product. Your under the category of, "WTF. This is GAY! I must keep looking to see what the F they're talking about" AKA, the angry fan.
This is said, "Keep them guessing" to help Nintendo's publicity. How many sites are going to have what you just said?
A lot.
And I still wait for Suda 51 to use it for whatever reason(Horror game PLEASE!)
Final Note: Nayrman TOTALLY deserves the rank of Ultimate Skeptical. It needs to be pink and glitters every second.
Do it. Do it. Do it.

Oh Vesperia, never change... never change

Other than the survival horror genre, I see absolutely zero practical use for this thing (other than helping Wilford Brimley check is "diabeetus" in game).

And I've played System Shock 2, Silent Hill 2, and Eternal Darkness... nothing has yet to top those so it's hard to get cared after those games. But that's just me. XD

Besides, the "keep them guessing" game only works if while far-fetched, actually seems that it could work by surprise. I don't see this working and I see this as the peripheral that broke the consumer's back.

Yes, I SO want that rank! XD

Reggie also said that Nintendo hadn't abandoned its core audience.

lol

Nayr normally I think your weird and annoying, but you and I think the exact same about current Nintendo (it sucks).

Yesterday, sort of. I was on the verge of crying. Why? I got into an argument with a couple other people from #nsider and it got me really upset. I didn't really cry much though

I also love his "new core" quote when referring to younger girl gamers who bought Nintendogs and will buy Style Savvy. Those games are frankly the farthest thing from core, and when they can be handled by flash artists online to the exact same effect, you've really missed the point Reggie.

As the one comment on the full interview said, he's being way too cocky. Does Reggie really think the core audience has taken to the balance board? I still don't know a single "core" gamer I know who bothered to get the darn thing because the games for it suck and are extremely limited.

And Nintendo thinks they can still make core games... aww isn't that cute!

Macawmoses

Again, I beg to differ. I quite enjoy the Balance Board, and most of my accessories get regular use (sans the Zapper, which just didn't get support). Vitality seems promising - and that's all he is offering. He is offering you his hope, reassurance to stakeholders. I don't quite get how you think every announcement is aimed at gamers...because they very rarely are. It's a business thing.

Nayrman

saying it's good is no where near as good as showing it's good.
OF COURSE Reggie thinks the Vitality is a innovative piece of hardware that will descend from heaven and be the next money printing machine. HE WORKS FOR NINTENDO. That's like Bill Gates coming out and saying "Windows 7 is great! It'll be awesome!".

I will remain a skeptic until I get hard proof that this thing works well and will actually be useful for actual games (no tech demos and minigame packages), I will be as such.

Ugh, I hate the balance board so much in the few instances in which I've tried it in stores...

Finally, I hate how everything is a business decision for EVERYTHING nowadays. Yes, Recession, I GET IT. There is a reason no one trusts companies and why I NEVER want to be associated with any hollywood studio if I do in fact go into filmmaking. It's all about the business, never about the games (especially from Nintendo nowadays).

Macawmoses

You're confusing business with something as some kind of evil item. Really, if anything, business is the only thing going right as of now. It's the people dictating the type of games you play - if you want hardcore games, less peripherals, etc. vote with your dollars - buy games like Retro Game Challenge. But no, you seem to think something has changed with Nintendo. It has not, I assure you. It is still meeting the demands of its stakeholders, and based on the sales of Wii Fit, of its fans. Because it's not on level with what YOU want is your issue though. Honestly, I have trouble believing your rants when you can't get past the fact that this is a societal change, and not a business one. You're like the group of people refusing to vote for a black person because they're black, a clear cut, and obstinate, minority. Ultimately, you haven't changed with the times, and you hate the world because of it. Or in this case, Nintendo.

change when change is needed is one thing. Change for change's sake rarely works in the long run.

Look, we all know why Nintendo went this route. We know and they know they can't compete with Sony and Microsoft in that way anymore.

And I AM voting with my wallet. I bought No More Heroes, I bought MadWorld, I bought (despite my better judgment) The Conduit and other such games.

I think we all know something has changed with Nintendo. As far as recent trends can tell, it's good for the industry in the short run. However, for long run this looks eerily similar to Atari in the 2600 era in the early 80's. A fun little box that got people initially interested, but with a flood of shovelware, oftentimes confusing controls, and no quality standard will ultimately doom them. I'm essentially waiting for the casual bubble to pop and see what happens after it happens (and it WILL eventually. Nintendo doesn't seriously think they're going to hold on to these age 30+ parents, non-teenage/children women, and old folks new casuals and turn them into actual gamers do they?)

Comparing me to racists is a HUGE insult Mack. I have no problems with casual games as long as I can get what I want as well, and frankly the Wii has not delivered in any sense of the word to me (and many core gamers I know). And yes, I tend to only care about what I want in games. I'm a narcissist and have long since lost faith in most of humanity. I don't care what these casuals want, I care about what I want. And since Nintendo seems to not care about the core audience, why should I about them?

And finally, I prescribe to the Yahtzee view of games (and life in general): Just assume everything is s***, and when it is you can say "I told you so!". On the rare times it isn't, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Tupin

I came in here mainly to say that Segagaga was never intended to be a serious game. It was meant to be Sega's way of saying "Screw you Sony, you basically destroyed us, we quit."

More games should take themselves less seriously.

But as for the topic at hand, I always give things a chance. The Wii is aging very quickly, and this gen of systems itself will be replaced within the next 3-4 years. Unless Nintendo does something great, I'll alway remember the Wii simply as "okay".

I agree with Tupin
(but of course, yes call me Nayrman Jr. if you like) but I agree with Nayrman on everything he says.

But from my point of view, why can't Nintendo make games to please these Non gamers AND Core/hardcore gamers at the same time?
When I go to the store, and go to the video game section of Nintendo....... out of ...let's say.... 30 Nintendo Wii games 22-25 of the games listed are nothing but cheap, childish/babyish, un-interesting, less then 14 hours of actual game play WII Games.
It's honestly appalling. I turn around behind me where the X Box 360 is with it's glowing Green aura (lol) I see umm well .... games that are worth purchasing because it's what I would be looking for.
The X-box 360 atleast has games that far outweigh Non gamer games.

To me that says something. But alas ...

Nintendo is a business, and as a business they'll do anything to sell sell sell...and if that means to Sell out to the True die heart fans of Nintendo...and go towards these old/middle aged adults and young children........they'll do it.
As a business I understand that...if thats where the money is then thats where they are going...while they'll randomly and give us Core gamers what we want.

Yeah thanks for throwing us a bone here and there Nintendo, really appreciate that..... *gives thumbs up*-

I feel like I'm starving for Nintendo to give me food (games), but Nintendo is randomly giving me food just to survive until the next dinner.

I'll always be a die hard fan of Nintendo......and Ultimately refuse to spend my money on any other System.
Unless Nintendo 100% Sells out completely I'll never leave Nintendo.........I'll just either Starve myself to death or eat what they give me and never like it.........................

CAUSE IT SUCKS (it's games).

*still, they should try to make everybody happy, not just 1 major area of consumers...

I'm not expecting too much from the sensor at this point, and I too am skeptical of how "awesome" it'll be. Still, I'm kinda wondering what they have planned, which I guess was Reggie's plan.

I woudln't get my hopes up.
I haven't seen this Huge thing X Box has got going for it from E 3, and I never seen PS3's wand before...
Which ever the case may be, Nintendo will have to pull out something out of their.... .... well, you know.  :-\
