How Do You Read "lol"?

How do you read these laughing things? Like "lol." Do you read "L-O-L" or "LAWL"? Same with the rest, do you actually read it? or do you read the letters?
For a long time I never understood "lawl" because I read the letters, not it as a word. Which means I read it "L-O-L"

But if it's a line of LOLOLOLOLOL, I read it LAWLAWLAWLAWLAWL
