I attempted watching Jeopardy on mute today. Well, I wanted the TV on to show caller ID's because our phones are busted, and I put the TV on mute so I wouldn't get distracted. The flashing colors distracted me anyway, and I began watching it on mute.

I didn't understand what was happening. It must have been the bonus round where they write down their answers to the question and their wagers. So this girl gets the question right, I didn't see her answer or what she wagered, but I saw her money go way up. Then the next guy goes, and I see his answer and he wagers $2,000, then gets an awful lot more then that. The next guy has something completely different for an answer, loses the $7,000 he wagered, is now in last place, then suddenly gets $100,000, looks seriously surprised but happy, and runs up to grab a trophy.

I could rewind and find out what happened, but I'll leave it a mystery. Anyway, have you ever attempted watching something on mute, and how did that work out for you?
I get obsessively manic over things. It's a problem.

Tupin

My TV shows subtitles when I put it on mute.

When I watch TV on mute I usually do it with friends and then fill in the silence with our own commentary.

Once I watch Chowder on mute with no subtitles and it made the show a LOT more perverted...  :-X

I have, and I also have against my will. Once while I was watching TV in my room, Ed Edd & Eddy came on, the first episode was fine, but the second episode had no sound, I was thinking they did it on purpose for whatever reason, and watched, it wasn't funny with no sound, so I left, and kept the TV on. For some reason I turned the TV on in ANOTHER room and changed it to the same channel and it was on WITH SOUND, I went back to my room and still no sound, which means my TV is a retard.
Cool story huh?

I set the TV to show captions while mute, because I remember watching cartoons as a kid and sometimes not understanding what was said.

I used to put subtitles on because it made it easier to understand what they were saying at times. But I've never done that with my new TV and remote, mainly because I don't know how to.

I watched Snakes on a Plane when FX was showing it and their sound was broken, but it wasn't muted...it was more like...all levels except for bass were gone, and on top of that it was glitched.  So it was basically

GHRTG THESE MFHGFRIUHJRO SGNKS OFGH THIS GHIBJKMFDSHG PLNNN

the whole time, really low with tons of static.  It was really entertaining.

I mute a lot of things so that I have subtitles. I don't really like listening as I catch things better when I read.

Oh Vesperia, never change... never change

It was probably the Teen Tournament.
It spanned like a whole week.

Anyway, I actually do the opposite.
I listen to the TV instead of watching it.
My vision = fail so listening is all I can really do. D:

Recent TVs are automatically turning closed captions on when muted? Well, I've never really used a recent TV myself D=

With my big old TV, I always keep captions turned on regardless of whether the volume is up or not. My hearing isn't that great at distinguishing what people are saying.
