I don't get why this wasn't done with a poll where the results could be visible to everyone after it ends to avoid any problems considering the person tallying seems to hold contempt towards one of the candidates.

A thread poll can be rigged without being monitored. Someone can make fake accounts just to vote and we wouldn't be able to catch it.
With a PM system, I can make sure that won't happen.
I would have used the poll system if there wasn't expected cheating. You intercourse ed up, so I'm doing it through PMs.

No, they get deleted from the database too if he deletes multiple PMs. I've dealt with people doing it to get around warnings.

Why not keep it public, like the other person said you are posting the voters in the thread so it's not about keeping voters anonymous.

They can be removed from the database. A few members (Rae for example) seem to do it at Boyah.

Geno did it too when I tried to warn him and couldn't prove it since he deleted the PM I was going to warn him for and it was no longer in the database.
