I was playing New Super Mario Bros Wii, a pretty fun game. I was having a good time easily beating world after world, collecting coins and rarities. I thought I was just having a good time in the Mushroom Kingdom.

But, the game became more disturbing as I continued collecting. Every time I would get 3 big coins, 8 red coins, all of the blue coins, horrible things would happen. Things that have made the game no longer enjoyable. The noise of clapping. Every time I collect more and more there is more cheering and clapping. Who is clapping and cheering? Why? How can they see me run though the game? Am I part of a science experiment and are they rewarding me for good behavior? Was the Super Mario Bros 3 theory correct? Is the story of Mario and Peach all just a play?

For those of you that have been playing, what do you think about the clapping?

You should be happy that people appreciate your hard work enough to cheer for you. Stop whining.
I really hate how I've made more than 12,000 posts here. Thankfully this swaying, moving Chandelure makes it all worth it.

The clapping is just the sound of Boos applauding you. Because, you see, Boos are lovable pranksters, hiding in the shadows turning invisible whenever, laying traps on unsuspecting villagers/Toads/anything. The Boos all stem from the bridge. This bridge has many different names, but it is most commonly referred to as Rainbow Road. Anyway, when inhabitants of the Mushroom Kingdom die, they turn into wandering spirits that travel into the bridge, awaiting judgment to pass into the Mushroom Sanctuary, or fall into the Minus World. Some spirits have the inane ability to successfully escape the bridge and re-enter the Mushroom Kingdom, upon doing so these spirits slowly transform into Boos, ghosts who once used to inhabit the Mushroom Kingdom but are no longer identifiable.
There are so many problems with his theory...

But I digress. The Boos were always clever pranksters, with a penchant for comedy, so naturally there was always an urgent matter to befall these pranksters, a matter that they would not handle seriously and therefore cause more havoc. In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, this urgent matter would be Star Keys. For a normal human/Toad to gain entrance to the bridge, the Star Key of the corresponding world is required. To gain entrance to the first division of the bridge, the Star Key of Grass World (1) is required, for example. The Mario Bros. and Toad Bros. knew that these Star Keys were required to gain the necessary power to rescue Princess Peach, and sought out to find the Star Key of the respective world. The Boos, having actually come from the bridge, wanted to interfere with the Mario Bros. plans to enter the bridge, and so Boos from all around decided to turn the quest for the bridge into a riddle: The Boos took the eight Star Keys of each world and destroyed them, scattering the once powerful keys into relatively normal Star Coins. The Mario Bros. and Toad Bros. witnessed the Boos destroy a Star Key, and realized that the Star Coins in each world is actually a part of a Star Key. So, the Mario Bros. and Toad Bros. surmised that, when all the Star Coins were collected, they would reform into eight individual Star Keys.

And so, when obtaining three Star Coins in a level, the Boos applaud the Mario Bros. and toad Bros. for finding the hiding places of the Star Coins.
Yeah, interesting tale, except there's a fatal flaw in your argument; BOOS DO NOT HAVE LARGE ENOUGH ARMS TO CLAP WITH.

Also, if you took the time to read that, then give yourself a cookie.

I still haven't opened my copy of the game yet.

The voices in your head.

But on a serious note I have no clue who they are.
I'm just as confused as you are.

They are clapping. Them. The real masterminds behind everything. They orchestrated all of the events in this game. The omniscient force that gave Bowser the idea to send the cake filled with the koopalings. And that left these star coins, red coins and blue coins as helpful hints.

The Shy Guys.

That was my first guess. But then I started to deny the idea.

It's everything.
Everything has eyes in the Mushroom Kingdom.
Everything can see you.

Did my well thought out explanation go unnoticed?
I'll just hold my breath and keep him guessing.

Boos can barely cover their eyes. .-.

Also, I think Mario might be the villain.
Have you ever noticed how after you beat a boss Princess Peach is on the side of the airboat standing there? There is enough room for her to jump off and have Mario catch her, but she doesn't. She just stands there looking indifferent.

Ever notice how the Koopa's happily dance to the background music? Then Mario runs along and slaughters them with his feet.
