Desktop Defender 2010

That's right. Desktop Defender 2010 (codenamed DD10 for ease and secrecy, but mostly ease). It's supposedly a defender of your desktop. But I've got a secret to tell you. Whatever they say, anything they say, it's all lies. DD10 will continue to harass you with their questions that aren't even intercourse ing yes or no answers even though the only options are yes or no. Why would they ask you (and I quote), "Do you really want to keep this ILLEGAL FILE on you [sic] computer or do you wanna install Desktop Defender to STOP THESE ILLEGAL FILES FROM HARMING YOU [sic] COMPUTER. ----> [Yes] [No]"

It doesn't matter which button you press, anyway. The same things happen. Oh, good news though. Desktop Defender successfully installed itself, shut down and rebooted my computer in order for its power to be complete, shut down my own Security Center, blocked my internet access, prevented itself from being uninstalled, and then turned my screen into blackness with the only file available to look at is Desktop Defender itself, urging me to click on its License Agreement to stop harmful things from harming "you computer".

Whatever I did, I did something. And I allowed a virus to get onto my computer and eat it from the inside. Sorry troops, it looks like it's a losing battle... But what I want to know is all the possible ways I could have gotten this virus so I don't let it happen again, any and all good spyware to install, and any other advice. I'd take it over to the Geek Squad, but my dad says I have to pay (even though it's his darn computer that he bought himself for his birthday *grumble grumble*), and I don't have the money to worry about laptops right now when I have this healthy one I haven't managed to destroy yet!

Download Spybot, Ad-Aware, and Spyware Doctor ASAP.
Together, they'll wipe out just about everything.
Er, everything that's bad, not everything on the computer.
Follow it up with Avast! or a similar free antivirus program.

I like AVG free + CCleaner. It stopped my computer from BSoDing.

I got a trojan today. Shot it the intercourse away with with a bazooka because of some free anti-virus thing from the internet. They work well.

...I have no idea how you people are getting so many viruses. Firefox with NoScript and Adblock Plus plus a free firewall for your first-line defense, Avast as your antivirus program.

No opening up strange e-mails or IM links, stay away from porn sites. 99.9% of all problems solved.

Maybe boot up in safe mode by TAP TAP TAPPING F8 when you turn on the computer.

Maybe boot up in safe mode by TAP TAP TAPPING F8 when you turn on the computer. Safe mode isn't a lot of help. At first it gave us the start menu and all that browser data, but now it doesn't help at all. DD10 continues to block our resources.

Also, we downloaded Avast! and AVG (I think that's what it was called), but every time we attempt to use them, DD10 pops up to warn us about some sort of virus issue, and then it shuts the computer down, forcing us to restart it and try all over again, which only results in the same issue.

I'm starting to think Geek Squad is the way to go. Can they help with this?

Sounds to me like the program is preventing them from opening to save itself. Nifty.

I got Norton Internet Security. (you have to buy it) It completely killed Personal Guard 2009.

They can, but it's probably much cheaper to find a local repair shop.
