You may have played these games on the Virtual Console, but in reality, it was a little known system outside Japan that tried to compete against Sega and Nintendo in Japan and lasted a long time, but failed to capture American markets. The first system to have a CD addon and possibly the only one with a good one, it's cartridges were the size and shape of credit cards and it had turbo functions built into the original controller. Needless to say, what worked in Japan failed here, and these systems go for a lot more than your standard NES/SNESes. I got mine for $35 with one game.

Most games that you will see for it are either very common or very rare, probably the only TG-16 you'll see in a game store is Keith Courage or maybe some sports game. Likewise, you will never see a Magical Chase at a game store for $2 unless you are insanely lucky. Outside the standard system, they had the Turbo Duo, a TurboGrafx and a TurboGrafx-CD in one that frequently goes for over $120, a TurboExpress, a handheld that plays the same games the console does, and at least a dozen different versions of the PC Engine, what the TG-16 was called in Japan.

Yep, it's an expensive system to invest in. Luckily you can buy a cartridge that has flash memory on it, download the games off of the Internet, and play it on your system. I think that's what I'm going to do...

Anyone play one of these before?
