April 19, 2010 - The director of Bayonetta and Okami wants to make a Star Fox game, and it looks like the only thing holding him back is Japan's tough stance on guns.

A Twitter follower pointed Platinum Games' Hideki Kamiya to a recent European interview in which Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto expressed interest in seeing a new Star Fox game made. Replied Kamiya: "I want Nintendo's staff to come to Platinum, stick guns at us and tell us 'You guys make a new Star Fox.'"

Kamiya appears to be a big fan of the series -- particularly Star Fox 64. In a later Tweet, Kamiya recalled his entry into Capcom. He submitted two design documents as part of his application. One of these involved wolves, and went on to become Okami. The other was a 3D shooter. After later playing Star Fox 64, however, Kamiya was so satisfied that he felt there was no longer a need to make a shooter.

I can already see Fox turning into a demonic creature.

So, the creator of the Devil May Cry series wants to make a new Star Fox game. How do you think he will do, though? He's been inspired by TLoZ and Gradius before. I don't know if he can do it, but, what do you think?

Discuss.

Not like Nintendo is using the franchise...

EH?????!!!!!! SERIOUSLY?! SO DES KA?!?!?!?!?! REALLY!? SO DES NE!?!?!?
Ahem, drastic reaction aside, wow. I've played Devil May cry and Okami, so it's not gonna be the easiest thing to even start thinking what this guy has planned! Considering that Team Ninja made Metroid M so violent and even rated M,  just imagine what'll happen here!

Other than Command absolutely decimating any continuity in the series, I see no issues with what Nintendo has done (when they do it). So, I'd rather they keep a firm grasp on the series.

How about the fact that Nintendo has no future plans for the franchise and they themselves don't want to develop any Star Fox games? They've made that pretty clear by avoiding questions regarding the series and by in the past, hiring second/third party developers to handle the job. Rare and Namco tampered with the formula with varying degrees of success and after the Ace Combat team's job with Assault I simply lost interest in the series.

A reboot with a developer like Platinum might be what Star Fox needs.

For the record, they never made any of the game's series. It was always a special guy who controlled the strings, not them, so I understand they don't know what to do.

You don't need to play Star Fox history with me, I'm very good at it. But the bottom line is that they know what they're doing, even if it does involve passing the buck. Frankly, they have a wide variety of options at their disposal. However, I think Sin and Punishment 2 is far more important right now - as both the original S+P and SF 64 were on rails. If they can hit S+P2 out of the park, then I'll know that SF in any new form will be great.

I was pointing out certain things to you because you see no issues with what they've done, yet we've had terrible games in the series. Odd.

i'm all for it it'd be cool if they made it more violent, i mean' its not meant for little kids anyway. plus this could effect what star fox characters get into the next SSB.
btw, assault is my favorite starfox game, all the other ones suck.
