Sometimes a picture, which is supposedly equal to a thousand words, can actually be more effective than an actual batch of a thousand words. In most cases, it's more efficient and plausible to use a picture instead of, for example, describing what a middle finger is and its meaning with a intercourse load of endless description.

What are some other phrases or expressions that you question the meaning and usefulness of?

it helps if the picture isn't of a middle finger, a gesture so abused and over-used that it really has no effect anymore
