What about small differences other than color? Shadow's spikes are more jagged looking, he has hover shoes, and I think he has a different bracelet...
Daisy has different earrings.
Well, with Shadow's hover shoes, you would need a different animation for walking than Sonic. From previous games, it's easy to assume that different colors/suits can not change any animation sequences for the character.
They could move Sonic up, or forget about the shoes altogether

Shadow just may not be able to hover, it wouldn't make a big difference.
