I don't use that aka tag. But you can usually find out who somebody is by checking out the first few posts they've made.

And also the staff drove away a considerable amount of users by their own actions or failure to act just because they didn't like certain users.

It's not much of a mystery.
People here are dicks and the staff doesn't care.  This is great when you've settled to a core of activish members who can say whatever they want without offending anybody, but it's terrible for any potential newcomers.
Seriously, since when has 'Moderator' here been anything more than a figurehead?
