Steak in the heart just puts it to sleep until the steak is removed. Sunlight just turns them to ash, but it's possible to revive.
I believe the most general way was turn to ash and pour that into holy water to "purify" it.
The final methods can change from tale to tale though. However, THEY WILL NOT TURN SPARKLY IN THE SUNLIGHT YOU NO TALENT HACK!

They mention that in the Hellsing anime jokingly, since those rules don't seem to apply to the Hellsing universe. Alucard himself...they never really say how he can be killed, but there is apparently a way. Most of the other vampires in Hellsing can be killed simply with blessed objects to the head or the heart, usually bullets. But of course, Alucard is not most vampires.

And you faggots need to watch Hellsing.
