I think the database is roughly 400MB, which isn't too bad. The PMs are only about 21MB or so. The whole shebang, according to the last backup, is around 415MB.

Oh right, it compressed all the databases in the backup file.
Uncompressed, it's about 950MB.

Well, I think I changed a setting or something a while back. We only recently started having these problems.

Find out what you changed then and go over it; Backtrack a bit to when you started having problems, etc etc etc.
