Fixed it for you.

No, it would be encouraging users to get off their asses. Apathy is an issue that needs to end. Frankly, the fact our users need to use the chat thread as oxygen is embarrassing. It's the only thing most post in (admittedly, I've been guilty as of late with grad prep, and wanting to check in). With that said, though, I've also been doing things beyond it, so I excuse myself. No one else (bar Silver) really has that excuse. Face it - NSFCD isn't worth the money to renew hosting if our users can't intercourse ing use a thread for YT videos, and instead insist on using one thread for EVERYTHING.
But we're not using the chat thread for everything. Just chat and Youtube.

We post our pictures in the picture thread. Most game discussion goes in the right place.
The only parts of the boards that aren't visited are the arts and non-Nintendo boards.
People don't have an interest in the Arts here, or non-Nintendo games.

We can actually take this as a sign.
We were built from the remains of a Nintendo board.
On that Nintendo board was the obvious Nintendo discussion and the off-topic "Power On."

So, our Power On/"Power On (RP)" and Nintendo Boards are active. We're still Nsider at heart (go figure?)

Maybe if we want the Youtube thread to be active, move it to Power On. Stop being so specific on what fits in "The Arts", because even though Youtube is a media source, it's not necessarily an Art, especially some of the stuff we post.

How many people he would have to do so to is the real question.

Before Mack and Rob go bickering on about this for pages and pages end I'll just say this: Either way, you're not really accomplishing much with the site out of activity. We've had a hard time advertising as of recent. The site should just move forward if you all are really that concerned.

question is to "what" but this should probably go in a different (And an in-depth thread at that) discussion, really. but hey let's not listen to tk because tk sucks.

As for the youtube thread just move it to Power On. Hell, does it even have to be floated? It'd do better in Power On not floated than it would in the arts. We need to really classify what we mean there and just make it two boards already.

Sorry, not happening. It simply re-affirms my position that our users are lazy if they can't click on the arts board for it. Apparently the discussion doesn't mean that much to you. Frankly, NSFCD needs to consider closing its doors - we just saw how much it costs Silver, and for what? This is the most overpriced chat on the internet...hell, I wouldn't pay no intercourse ing bill for all of you to not even use the forum as a forum, to ninny at every possible junction, and to prove in March that you have the ability to make his investment worth its while, but think you're too good for it. We're not a community at all. We're not a forum. We're a gosh darn chat.

Thirdkoopa

Making a thread right now on this.

Also I find it highly hypocritical that we're debating this over wanting to branch out over the chat thread, yet at the same time, we're using the chat thread.

I think you're out of your mind if you don't think we're a community and if you think that's all we are. You should bail now if that's how you feel.
We have a relatively small community, yeah, but that further means we need to start merging some poop and stop being so darn picky where everything goes. Say we have 20 people online at any given moment. By making sure we have to have everything in a separate board, we're splitting those 20 people into small groups, and discussion slows down. So what if we're lazy? Obviously that won't change, and trying to enforce it will only hurt it more. Activity will increase if you move things closer together. No one has any interest in clicking "The Arts", so why not move it to Power On? Think about it for a second, it's almost like a trick. What they wouldn't have seen before because of no interest, they'd see and post in it because it's where they are.

Just makes sense to me. If you're not gonna allow Youtube videos in the chat thread, at least move the Youtube thread to Power On. If not for the fact that it would increase responses, for the fact that most of the youtube videos aren't "Arts".

Hey, I'm just making suggestions that'll help this place, but he doesn't wanna hear it.

Macawmoses

Fine. You want an argument, you've got it.

No, nothing should happen like that? You can't even begin telling me how little this forum means to me until you have more than a fraction of the time I have on NSFCD. I've been watching this degeneration go on and on - and one thing i've noticed is that you're always weasling your way into these situations, calling people out on something you yourself don't better. I've watched you try and squirm on to staff, and on to game shows.

NSFCD is not what it was, yes, I get that. And no, I'm not the old guard - I'm the guard that's survived an onslaught of change that was stupid. Yes, I merged the boards originally (well, my proposal did) and I saw the effects - discussed ENDED. Permanently. Some were good merges in my opinion, as they consolidated, but hindsight suggests we had markets that we drove to NS2 and beyond.

Yes, activity will increase by moving things closer together. For about a month. Then, we'll revert to chat mode, and lo and behold, we'll be in the same situation. What I've found about each of these progressions is that they aren't reversible, by any means. And they also share a common goal of seeing rises followed by depressions.

As for the laziness, it's a horrible thing. March Madness opened my eyes even further as to what NSFCD is now - a state of bureaucracy, cabin fever, and the like that ultimately needs an exterminator to come in and drive out all of the nasty insects infesting it. To call this a forum is naive: hell, Silver agrees with my assertion that NSFCD is, in fact, a chat. Nothing more. Chats can be communities, but we really aren't. We're fragments, at best. Cliques like the Doodle gang, the staff, and every other one. We can't unite it at this point without serious damage. So what do we do? A series of small appeasements to make everyone happy - one side ninnyes to us, we nod, then we listen to the other ninny about them. We try to find a middle ground, but never truly find it because EVERYONE IS UNWILLING TO BUDGE. I'm not against progression, by any means, but I've seen what it does here. And until the user base can handle contributing, our best bet is to avoid it, or better yet, move on to a chat network and let someone else pay the bill for our "community" - rather than draining Silver.

I'm very clearly out of touch with all of you though, seeing as you all were so quick to jump in and help Silver. And yet, calls to prove that he should keep NSFCD going results in what...more apathy? It's absolutely embarrassing on every level imaginable. Silver and myself slave away to make things great here, and at every opportunity we hear no positives...we see no positives...and we feel like poop. By demanding the YT video thread to be moved to PO (as one example) you tell us that our work is meaningless...you're asking us to take NSFCD from what it is and turn it into, as I said earlier, an overpriced chat. That's a horrible thing.

I've noticed this downward spiral over the past few months, and I've done my best to ignore it and tell myself that it will improve. But...it really hasn't gotten all that much better. We seem to have hit a steady pace of posting, which is nice, but it feels like we aren't all nearly as unified as we once were. By no means am I going to shut this place down, but something needs to change. I just don't know what.

Since this is sort of relevant: I still think that The Arts should all be merged into one (as in, get rid of the child boards and just put everything Arts related into that one board).

But I'm not trying to make this place into a giant chat, and I hope no one takes it that way. Personally, I just think things will work out better if they are less broken down.
I get obsessively manic over things. It's a problem.
