Oh, I see.  You have no idea how money works.  Because most people know that Bill Gates has more than a couple of hundred bucks, which is what you would need to get a SNES and a couple of games (including Chrono Trigger).  And most people would buy a couple of games at a time, building a respectable collection over time if they wanted to replace a digital collection, which is not something I suggested you should do at all. But your over the top reaction makes perfect sense.  Disregard.
>over the top.  You seem to be mistaken. Enthusiastic, not over the top.

And I do have a MASSIVE amount of games. To "build them up over time" would be WAY beyond any amount of budget OR time I could fathom. To eventually replace them all, especially the expensive ones, the rare ones, and the japanese ones I patched to be translated would basically make me the biggest loser on the face of the earth. I'd never get anything done. And I would never be complete.

Nobody NEEDS a Super Nintendo anymore. Nobody NEEDS to play anything on a Super Nintendo anymore. It's just not needed. Emulators are present.

History made tonight in Wisconsin. Good job Republicans. I absolutely hate the bill, but I'm glad a message was sent to the Dems: you show up for works.

Sen. Schultz, a Repub, showed up. And he voted no. I don't see why the others couldn't. To me, I'd rather have a "NO" on record than a "sorry on taxpayer provided holiday one state over" recorded.

Hope all of those not present are recalled.

Also, fun thought. A bill to fire Senators that don't show up for work. Bet they'd show up. Mind you, they really have no choice but to return quite soon anyways. They've got about a week left.

But Mack, they don't have Majority. As far as I know, in order to vote on the bill, they need BOTH GOP's and Dems to have a say. But I also believe they need a majority vote to pass the bill. If the Dems don't come back, they can't vote, and they can't lose to a GOP Majority, and that's why they were camping out in Illinois.

At least, from what I understand...

It was the only feasible way to delay the bill.

Macawmoses

They only need that quorum for financial matters. Hence, by stripping that out, they need a reduced number. What they did tonight was quite brilliant.

And yes, that's the only way to delay the bill. Which is incredibly shameful. Instead of following suit with democratic practices, they chose to take flight. They lose one way or another. As a matter of honour, they should "fight the good fight". Not take a cowardly approach and duck and cover.

Not to mention, they have to come back sooner or later. They forfeit their seats after a month out of state if memory serves correctly (unless it is on government business, which it is not). Here is the bottom line: if I don't show up for work, I get fired.

I want that to hold true to politicians.

Note: I do NOT agree with the Republicans on this issue. I strongly, STRONGLY disagree with it. But I support democratic practice more.

There's no "H" in "O".
But if I left it out I read it as an "oo" sound. ;_;

Then again, it doesn't make sense either way. Silly Canadians and their O's.

Chat thread is unbalanced.
"Many people see technology as the problem behind the so-called digital divide. Others see it as the solution. Technology is neither. It must operate in conjunction with business, economic, political and social system."

Except that taking flight WAS the good fight. they delayed long enough to make some amendments to the bill, and to only put part of it through. And Walker intercourse ed up along the way, talking to "David Koch". (lol)

It was the only thing they could have done, and it worked much better than I thought it would.

Sometimes, anarchy must reign to balance out the unlawful processes of democracy. If only briefly...

But I do say, just pass it. Either it intercourse s everybody over for quite awhile, but in the end we DO get a balanced budget, or it intercourse s everybody over, nothing improves, and state politics are vastly improved over the next decade.

Nayrman

Can't wait to see how much this screws state workers over in the coming years. Then again, the GOP only cares about making sure their pockets are lined with money and intercourse  the civil servants if it "balances the budget" in the process. (i.e. we spend less on people and use the money for our own needs).

So, either stupid ass GOP'ers that don't care about actually making things or cowardly democrats who can't get things done outside of just running away. (Even if it was the only option they have). Now you know why I don't vote because Independents never win.

Most of the amendments were from Republicans. At least four of them objected and brought about change. They may have brought more with the help of the Dems. Not to mention, as soon as they're back, it will go through. They're just allowing more time for teachers and other workers to not be doing their jobs.

QuoteIt was the only thing they could have done, and it worked much better than I thought it would.

No, it should not. What you are saying here is that if you don't like how things are going in the democratic system, it's OK to bend the rules. Or, in better terms "it's only Democracy if we get our way". That's what the Dems are doing. If they want to "balance out" the processes (that ARE law) then they need to go through the same process the Repubs did with this bill. Don't be surprised if you see the Repubs walk out though.

QuoteBut I do say, just pass it. Either it intercourse s everybody over for quite awhile, but in the end we DO get a balanced budget, or it intercourse s everybody over, nothing improves, and state politics are vastly improved over the next decade.

Again, I don't like it, but you're actually advocating for a worst case of both of your options. Politics won't improve in the next decade if the answer to democracy is forgoing in whenever you feel like it. There are far broader implications than just unions and the like.

@Nayr: Balancing the budget is an important thing. Right now, in Alberta, we're running a deficit. But we also had a 20 Billion Dollar rainy day fund. We did things at all costs to get out of debt under Premier Klein (including an ungodly assault on teacher's pay that has only recently returned to 1994 levels). But here's the thing -- we're leaders in the English language regions in Math and Science. Our education hasn't really suffered. Our health care is problematic now, but that's because we've struggled between privatizing and staying public (it's still infinitely superior to anywhere in the US). It's not lining pockets at all. Nor is it really spending less. If it's not done now, fixing the budget will need to be done down the road. Who knows what lies around the corner? At the moment, the US is in recovery. In two years, it could be in decline again. Hmm...
