I started playing FFIX with a new set of discs so that I can finally finish it once.

I overleved Garnet right before her Eidolons are taken to use Shiva early. Nice achievement?

I just started playing my friend's copy of Metroid Other M. And I LIKE it! *gasp* *controversy*

Writing is not good, and Samus' voice actress is awful (the Primes had JENNIFER HALE, I don't get why they couldn't bring her back), but the gameplay is nice, and the fact that this is probably the most cinematic 1st party game Nintendo's made (and the fact that most of the sexist undertones can be blamed on DoA creators) kinda lets me slip it past; "Nice job for your first try, just don't do it this poorly next time."

I also played Fusion first, so boring monologs and a creepy obsession with Adam isn't exactly new character development.

What it really comes down to is that once the initial "oh intercourse  this is badass i'm doing ninja gaiden poop in a Metroid game!!!!" feeling wears off, it isn't fun. I don't even have a problem with the "sexist undertones". No one should. Shit like this actually exists irl, deal with it. Fuck political correctness. It's just that the story is incredibad. There's no real way to describe it outside of that, but I'll try:

It's like they completed the script, read over it, puked all over the pages because of how bad it was, then decided to just go with whatever wasn't covered in vomit, resulting in something much worse than what made them vomit in the first place.

Honestly I'd probably power through it if the control scheme was better(namely, transitioning from third to first person in real time). That becomes annoying during the first boss fight.

Other M has a lot of terrible gameplay. Everything was just executed so badly. The first person, WHERE'S WALDO, boring auto-fire. Reusing enemies and mini-bosses over and over. The designs were so bland after what we got with the Prime series.
Plus there's like no atmosphere at all. The music is pretty much all ambiance, aside from Ridley's theme which was just reused anyway.

The random stop & search parts are obnoxious, but I like all the rest of the non-dialog-based stuff. The environments are beautiful and unexpected, there's a sense of atmosphere (just made it into the tower thing, and I definitely got a bit of a horror-vibe), the melee stuff is a nice touch, and I've gotten used to the aiming transition fairly quickly. I also don't mind auto-aim too much, as a 3D third-person game like this would almost NEED some kind of auto-aim or constant use of a lock-on button.

The Primes are better, but I think Other M is a decent 3D interpretation of the traditional 2D gameplay. If they tweaked a couple elements, I would love a similar style on 3DS (maybe if they finally make a game that takes place after Fusion).
