What's the point of having a girlfriend or boyfriend in High School?

MY GF last year made me happy. For 6 months, I wasn't "that black guy that gets mad over stupid poop". I enjoyed coming to school, and life more. Though my grades stayed the same. (Mostly a's and a b or two).
