because some people are too lazy to do so, that's what it comes down to.  you can tell what I'm saying regardless, and the point of forums is to get information across.  as long as you're doing that in a convenient matter, why does it matter?  Some people take forever to type, because they don't know how to type, or use the shift keps properly (in which case they should take classes, but anyways...).  I think that as long as you're getting your point across, it doesn't irk me.  Nobody is marking you, you're not talking to someone who is judging you in ways that you should deem important.
But overall, it just encourages bad typing and grammar.  When typing actual papers, you will do that much better and have far few mistakes if you constantly type properly.  It trains your mind better, instead of slacking off when it's not as "important" to be grammatically correct.

Yeah, but some people will do badly on those papers regardless. :P

I normally practice good grammar, but sometimes I slack off (usually during one or two sentence (yeah, i agree, but...) things).

I can get my point across all the time, though.  My english will never suffer because i decide to post on casual forums.

Honestly?  I could type more double the speed (and accuracy) of my typing teacher.  She was frickin slow.

PSEUDO EDIT:

If I want to be taken seriously, I'll type correctly, and I'll make sure that I haven't made any mistakes.  However, if it's something that I really don't care about, I won't, so I won't be taken seriously, and I won't care about it.

However, in a forum like this, one-liner answers to questions like (you have to go in and out of hypermode to conserve energy, or else youll die quickly), shouldn't really be a big issue, I don't think.  It's the bigger essay type posts that make the difference.  If you don't need to be taken seriously, you won't type seriously.  Someone who wants to be taken seriously will make an attempt to type well regardless of their typing skills.

How hard is it to take those 2 extra seconds to type properly?

Why does it matter if I capitalize my Is?  I mean, I do it naturally anyways, but I don't really think it matters at all.  Not everyone can average at 86 like I can, and for some, it takes quite a longer time to capitalize their sentences.

My point is that it just doesn't matter.  You can still tell what I'm saying when I don't capitalize the start of my sentences.  I hate it when people misspell words, that's what a spellchecker is for (though i don't think there is one here), but most people can spell fine anyways.  If it irks people, yeah, I'll make sure my grammar is perfect, but on a casual message board like this one, it doesn't matter.

Now if you would ask me the same thing about more serious forums, I'd have a different opinion.  But since you're on a lax forum, it's not something that is that important.

(RANDOM APPEARANCES FTW)

Because it just matters. It absolutely matters.

Maybe I'm the one who's different, or I'm the one with the problem, but I can't take people seriously unless their posts are at least reasonably acceptable grammatically.

I'm not saying that everyone should type like a scholar, but unless they meet at least middle school requirements, I can't take them seriously, and justifiably so. I learned how to write with proper grammar when I was in 6th grade. By then, I had enough knowledge from English classes to say what I wanted to say while keeping to the rules of English 90% of the time. Sure, I used a word wrong occasionally, but not often.
6th grade. Some on here may be young, but I really doubt that more than 1% of the members here are younger than or at the age of 11.

Look at some of the grammatically incorrect posts in this thread.
Can you honestly take that seriously? Would you trust that as a source? Would you enjoy having a conversation with someone who spoke like that?
Proper grammar just makes everything look so much more refined and intelligent, and for such a cheap price. The only thing you sacrifice is a little bit of your time. You gain so much more back in the form of intelligence and sociability. People will want to talk to you. You look "smart".

It matters.
What a truely fitting first post for you. ♥

I had to hold back the laugh that was about to explode from my mouth so I wouldn't wake up my parents when I read that.

It's grammar, dear.
