Title: What do You believe in?
Post by: StarWindWizard7 on August 10, 2010, 04:18:22 PM
A lot of people believe in a lot of different things.

List all the things that you believe in, (it being as ridiculous as still believing in Santa Clause to you believing that Dolphins breath air ...or something).

My beliefs (in no order)...

1. I believe in God.
2. I believe that money is the root of all evil, and it equals power.
3. I believe that the "Politics/Higher ups" should focus more on American Problems then the Worlds (just a tad more).
4. I believe that Bad things happen to good people often.
5. I believe in Karma.
6. I believe that animals Don't have souls.
7. I believe that the world is gonna end by Natural Disasters or another World War.
8. I believe that Marijuana Should be illegal unless you have a prescription for it.
9. I believe that rap sucks!
10. I believe that I'm going out of my Mind right now! !
(oh, and I have more) but I'll post them in other posts later (if this Thread is Successful).

All right, your list please...
And be honest.

I believe that nothing is certain.
I believe in reincarnation and Karma.
I believe that humans are generally corrupt people.
I believe that marijuana should be legalized and have a huge PowerPoint presentation about it, though I would never smoke myself.

I believe in God, and I believe that social networking can be blamed for anything. Those are the only two that come to mind.

I believe in a lot of things, some things kinda counter each other so it makes little to no sense. Some things I believe in will likely offend many people here and may cause arguments.

Most of what I'm posting now has to do with religion.
- in God.
- that being homosexual is usually a choice, and usually they don't think it's wrong so don't choose to go back (EX: a girl wants attention so she becomes a lesbo to get it | someone had something wrong and were unable to get the opposite sex to be attracted to them, so they changed for an easier time for romance)
- that some homosexuals didn't choose it, but something happened in their life that made them confused thus attracted to the opposite sex (like how some sick fetishes come to people, something happened thus making them like that)
- that those who were raised to believe something else may be saved because it wasn't their choice to believe in what they believe (this could apply to religion as well as homosexuality and a few other things)
- that animals DO have souls.
- that boobs are awesome (as long as they don't LOOK fake and they aren't mainly there due to fatness [I don't care about size])
- that everyone is exactly by the millisecond the same age, but if you are younger when reading this, then this already happened in the past for you, and if you are older when reading this, then this has yet to actually happen when I post it. Confusing and hard to understand.
- that age doesn't matter in romance, as long as the younger is actually at a good age to be mentally prepared to actually understand what's happening (EX: 8 year olds would not be ready) and you both feel the same way and are prepared to be treated how you will likely be treated.
- that sex should wait until after marriage (as well as sexual activities such as blow jobs & ear s-... nevermind).
- that brutal honesty is awesome in most situations.
- that I am cooler than every single one of you.
- that all music is good.
And that is all for now. More later maybe.

They do breathe air, although they can hold their breath for much longer than any land-dwelling mammal I've heard of. Maybe his point was that the span of valid "belief" includes things that are actually true.

Yeah, I was just being facetious. I do know they breathe air. :P
Anyway, when I first read it, it looked to me that you were saying both ideas were ridiculous. Now, however, I see that was not the case.
I believe:

-in God, Jesus is the Son of God and is God, and the Trinity.
-that no one is born homosexual, they just choose it later in life.
-in Heaven, and that I'll go there one day.
-that animals don't have a soul.
-that Evolution and the Big Bang Theory are both myths.
-that Creation is true.
-that marriage should be between a man and a woman.
-that no one should EVER force their beliefs on someone.
-that believing that Jesus dying on the cross and accepting His free gift through salvation is the only way to go to Heaven.
-that the KJV Bible is 100% true.
-that we should have wiped out Communism 50 years ago when we had the chance.
-that the world is falling apart.
-that God will rapture those who have accepted His gift of salvation when the end times come.
-that you can't prove the Bible false, only mistake its writings.

Oh, and

Reading other peoples believes just kind of goes against my own, but I think that's natural.
Lol, I just want to know that if the roles were Reversed, would they feel the same way?

1. God created all of us and loves all of us, and I believe of course can foresee the future and knows the choices we will make, and thus still gives us his love.
2. As long as your not hurting anybody/anything, marriage can be between anybody of any race. Man/Woman. Woman/Woman. Man/Man.
3. I believe that I'm truly a white guy trapped in a black guys body.
4. I believe I played Super Smash Bros. Brawl more times then anybody else on this forum, lol.
5. I believe in love at 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sight (if you don't even get the chance to get to know them).
6. Music can be a gateway to the soul.
7.  I believe that people deserve second chances.
8. I believe the President is trying his best, and will never satisfy Everybody.
9. I don't believe in Ghosts, but I believe in the Holy Ghost.
10. I believe that the world can be a better place with our Mosquitoes!

stranger.

On a serious note:
- I believe that there is an almighty power
- I believe there is nothing after death
- I believe that humans are born with good and evil inside them
- I believe in a rapture, whether it is human doings or Gods
- I believe that alcohol should also be banned along with cigs if they keep marijuana illegal
- I believe that if there is a heaven and hell, I will probably be going down after life
- I believe that I will die a young age
- I believe I could keep going with this stupid stuff, but it makes me sound REALLY emo when I'm one of the most positive people you'll meet, so I'll stop.
1. I believe there will never be world peace because there never has been and because:
2. I believe it is in human nature to conflict with others over differences like religion, race, etc, or even something ridiculous like fashion or lifestyle. Nations going to war with eachother because they worship different gods is the same thing as kids bullying one kid for being fat but to a different extent.
3. Religion is bullpoop.
4. The world will never end until the sun enters the helium fusion stage that all stars do and then it expand and burn the earth into a crisp.
5. evolution is real
6. People are born gay; sometimes people pretend to be gay for whatever reason.
7. We will never know for sure how the universe began to exist.
8. there are other intelligent life forms out there in the universe.
9. Anyone can marry anyone
10. America really only means freedom to the free
11. Punk rock is the best thing that ever happened.

- I believe all people are intercourse ing stupid unless proven otherwise.
- I believe all organized religion is bullpoop (You can believe in God and Jesus without being part of some stupid religion).
- I believe NOBODY has any business to tell anybody who they can marry and who they can't.
- I believe everybody is born bisexual to an extent, you are just told from a young age that liking anyone from the same sex is wrong.
- I believe if you chase your dream long enough, you will get it (Granted, you put the time and effort into whatever it is you want to achieve).
- I believe that, even though I think anyone should have the right to get married if they so choose, marriage sucks.
- I believe that anyone who thinks homosexuality is a choice is gosh darned retarded beyond belief.
- I believe that Karma's a ninny.
There's more, but I got bored >.>

I believe in evolution.
I believe many of the things in religion are bullpoop.
I believe a marriage is between a man and a woman.
I believe it's okay to be gay, but that doesn't mean you should be able to get married, etc. Gays can be together, etc, but I don't believe a gay marriage can be recognized legally as a straight marriage can.
I believe everyone will flame me for my above belief.
I believe that neither global warming nor the hole in the ozone were caused by humans.
I believe that child obesity is because of the ignorant parents that don't care about their kids' weight.
I do not believe in ghosts.
I do not believe in anything coming back from the dead (zombies, etc.)
I believe that a difference could be made if people recycled, but they're too lazy to do it.
I believe that the world will still be here in 2013.

I guess the parents use mind control to get in the kids head and stuff food down their throats.

It's both their faults, the parents for not telling the kids about calories and eating healthy, and the kids fault for shoveling the junk food poop down throats. Not like they can't say no when there is cake in front of them, they can tell if they are getting fat or not.

That is all.

It's not the kids faults at all. Kids have no idea what will happen when they eat tons of junk food. It's up to the parents to make sure they don't do things like that to themselves.

Religion/Spirituality
-There is/are a deity/deities or higher powers at work in the universe, though I don't consider myself enlightened enough to make any reasonable guesses about his/her/its/their identity.
-For the most part, these higher powers stay out of universal affairs and allow us to dictate our own destinies for better or for worse. There are a few fuzzily-defined hard-and-fast rules like "don't cause unwarranted and undue suffering upon others", but the higher powers don't have restrictions like "you must belong to religion x" or "homosexuality is wrong".
-Though it may not be Fluffy Cloud Heaven and Fireball Hell, some kind of afterlife or status of existence after death exists, and "good" people will be rewarded, and "evil" people will be punished.
-Most of humanity is not naturally good or evil, but selfish, fickle, and ignorant. It is up to us to overcome these natural flaws to become better, more productive people (or to give into them and become evil).
-There are a few outliers, say 5-10%, on either extreme of society who are preconditioned to be total saints or vagina cleaning devicebags and whose morality doesn't operate in the same way as the rest of humanity.
-Karma isn't an all-encompassing force, but it does exist.
-I neither support nor deny the existence of ghosts.
-Organized religion has a place in the word just as any other institution has. It is, like every other human construct, a tool, and can be used for either good or evil purposes.

Possibly more later.

Hmm, lemme think.

1. I believe you are ignorant/lazy if you follow a religion, but choose not to study about others.
2. Muslims are mostly very nice people. Darn you society for convincing us otherwise.
3. Evolution is totally real.
4. I don't follow Satanism, but its "eleven rules" are mostly pretty reasonable, although utopian.

I've just started talking to a pastor that my friend knows, and while it's for the most part typical Christian stuff, he has some good points. I'm trying to learn all major religions so I can at least know all my options. Why not?

Title: Re: What do You believe in?

1. Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked.
2. Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them.
3. When in another's lair, show him respect or else do not go there.
4. If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat him cruelly and without mercy.
5. Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.
6. Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the other person and he cries out to be relieved.
7. Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained.
8. Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself.
9. Do not harm little children.
10. Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.
11. When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him.

Some of them are sort of funny (the MATING SIGNAL) but none are really stupid.

Can't help but to say that these seem "normal" for what ever normal is. All you really have to do is be Considerate it would see,

-I believe that there is a god
-I believe that Jesus is the son of that god
-I believe that the Bible is mostly true, but should be taken more as a set of morals, than a history. Kinda hard to be accurate through hundreds of revisions & 2nd, 3rd & 25th hand knowledge.
-Evolution is a part of god's plan, there is so much documented evidence of evolution, it's almost impossible to refute it exists without seeming narrow-minded
-I believe that love is a lot less special than society makes it out to be. Of course it's easy to say this when you're not in love.
-I believe that whatever form god may take, he will accept us into heaven based on what is in our hearts, not by what holy book we read from or by what building we worship him in.
-I believe that for our corruption & political problems to go away, society should have more control over the government, not the other way around. A lot harder to be a general political or business poop hole when everyone is watching.
-I believe in karma
-I believe that we should deal more harshly with criminals, get rid of 'em or reform them. They take up too much space just vegetating in a cell block.
-I believe that the government has a duty to honor & allow Unions for gay couples. A law cannot tell your church to marry you, that you need to work out yourself, but the law should grant you the same rights as traditional couples.

I'm not explaining this last one completely, as I could take a whole page to fully explain my view, but the religions are the problem here, not the laws; At least if you want a marriage in the traditional sense.

"Vaccine" implies that aging is a virus...which it's not.

Here's an idea - maybe we could find a "vaccine," as you would so call it, that could cure you of stupidity. Or maybe a "vaccine" that could cure us of you.

THERE IS AN ANNOYING GUEST IN MY LAIR. AM I DISHONORING SATAN BY NOT DESTROYING HIM? HE IS MY SIBLING.

1.  I'm atheist / agnostic.  This quote sums it up.

Quote from: Richard Dawkins -- The God Delusion (pg.178)(2006)"A God capable of continuously monitoring and controlling the individual status of every particle in the universe cannot be simple. His existence is going to need a mammoth explanation in its own right."

2.  As for marriage, the term is relative.  If you can get "married" in other religions, then someone is obviously wrong about the exact guidelines for a marriage is.  I'm also sure if we can divorce, then same-sex marriage would not "ruin the sanctity of marriage".

3.  Homosexuality?  I don't personally know if it's a choice or not, but if animals participate in homosexual behavior, then it must be natural.  This comic (http://gocomics.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8341c5f3053ef013480712c11970c-pi) should have you thinking.

4.  Evolution is true as there's enough solid evidence for it (for example, the drug-resistant illnesses) and I would assume that there is extra terrestrial life as this universe is big enough for it, not that we'll find it in my lifetime.

5.  Power corrupts, as does money.  The Congressmen, for example: "I'll do this and that and other stuff".  They never get it done.  Also, as I was talking with Custom about Japan's copyright laws according to posts on /jp/, the lobbying done in the US is bullpoop.  All you need is a lot of money and a US Constitution expert, and you can probably get any law passed that you want.

6.  Back to religion, I consider it to have psychological benefits on people.  I heard praying to "God" helps people cope.  However, we do have the morons who believe what "God says" (their interpretation, if you will) is the absolute truth or their religious beliefs should be the moral standard and think that they can go through whatever means (legal or not) to make it morally acceptable to the average person.

(tl;dr, religion can actually be healthy.  Extremists' beliefs though, are not)

7.  Abortion should be legal, under certain criteria.  Incest, rape, or pregnancy complications that can kill the mother would be a valid reason for an abortion.  Every female can get ONE abortion without having to fulfilling the above criteria, which I'll call the "I intercourse ed up!  Plz save me!" abortion.  Those would all be covered by insurance.  Any other ones would be paid out of pocket.  If you can't pay, you can't have additional "I intercourse ed up!" abortion(s), EVEN if you can't afford the child (and hopefully, no one would be needing them the first time around).

8.  Though good & evil are relative, my opinion is somewhere along these lines:

Quote from: IhsoyOhcysp on August 14, 2010, 01:36:14 AM
-Most of humanity is not naturally good or evil, but selfish, fickle, and ignorant. It is up to us to overcome these natural flaws to become better, more productive people (or to give into them and become evil).

Oh, one last thing.

Quote from: JRose on August 10, 2010, 08:13:54 PM
I believe:

-that you can't prove the Bible false, only mistake its writings.

Oh, go to /r/atheism (http://reddit.com/r/atheism) and they'll love to prove otherwise.

Oh yeah, I probably should put some more serious beliefs like Lotos did:
1. I'm atheist. In my personal opinion, the existence of a god simply seems unbelievable and against my logic.
2. Regarding Christianity and its beliefs: 3. Abortion shouldn't be needlessly outlawed, but financial support shouldn't be excessive. A full-grown adult's life should definitely be placed on a higher priority than a fetus. I don't care enough about the subject to think about the details, but I guess I'll go with something like what Lotos said.
4. Space is vast enough; there's probably extraterrestrial life somewhere. But the chances of it ever having any impact on humans is ridiculously low (let alone the chances of it being like what we consider an animal or humanlike instead of simple single-celled life) and is a concept that should be mostly left to sci-fi.
5. JrDude's last post in this thread is silliness and shouldn't be taken seriously.

You sound like a homophobic Christian.  Also, that last part of my post wasn't insulting J, he's a cool guy, I wouldn't want to flame him.  However, there are factual errors in the Bible.  Maybe if people took it as a general guideline for their morals and realize that times change, the world would be a little better, not just think of it as a textbook.

Quote from: JrDude φ on August 10, 2010, 05:14:38 PM
- that being homosexual is usually a choice, and usually they don't think it's wrong so don't choose to go back (EX: a girl wants attention so she becomes a lesbo to get it | someone had something wrong and were unable to get the opposite sex to be attracted to them, so they changed for an easier time for romance)

Is that a fact?

- that some homosexuals didn't choose it, but something happened in their life that made them confused thus attracted to the opposite sex (like how some sick fetishes come to people, something happened thus making them like that)

I think biology would play a part in it too.

- that those who were raised to believe something else may be saved because it wasn't their choice to believe in what they believe (this could apply to religion as well as homosexuality and a few other things)

Are you assuming all other religions are false and if one was given the choice to convert to another religion, everyone would pick Christianity?

Also, I chose not to believe in Christianity, being raised as a Lutheran.  My parents took me out of Church when a whole lot of stuff was going on in my life -- it's not like I enjoyed going anyway.  I'd probably still be a Lutheran if I wasn't taken out of Church.

- that age doesn't matter in romance, as long as the younger is actually at a good age to be mentally prepared to actually understand what's happening (EX: 8 year olds would not be ready) and you both feel the same way and are prepared to be treated how you will likely be treated.

I would agree with you, but the thing is, it's easy to manipulate young people to get them to do what you want.  They also wouldn't know what "love" is at the age of, oh say, 14.  They'll think they're in love and have sex with their partner.  They might not regret it then, but when they're older, they will probably regret it.
