True, but how else do you expect me to play Earthbound?

On the virtual console one day.

it's as illegal as downloading music.  you won't ever get caught, but you don't go running around saying you have them sort of thing.

Is $60 really that hard to come up with? Buy the cartridge.

eBay, of course. The auctions usually end with the price anywhere between $55 and $75.

60-75$ is a total rip off!! face it unless you want to spend untold amounts of money trying to buy Nes cartridges "legally" than just download the game...

oh cool too bad Earthbound is an SNES game, not NES

do your research

New console games these days cost $50, and plenty of us shell out that much, so what's $15 or so more? Not much to complain about, especially for a game that's considered so awesome to own.

If we want to talk about rip-offs, we can talk about the starting price of OoT when it came out.

They're illegal any way you look at them.
However, our NFES is legal through a series of loopholes. :P
What NFES?

It was a feature on NSF that could play a lot (Not all.) of Nintendo Entertainment System games. You played using the keys on your keyboard, and could buy an adapter online and use an NES controller to play games. But after the takeover from NS2, we lost NFES. But we'll get it back eventually. So you could go to VirtualNES.com and play the games there, which is the same thing, but is still being updated and has a few more games.

Nintendo Forums Entertainment System. Hope this helped.

ROMs are indeed illegal.  No, it is not legal if you rip the game yourself; that just means you have two  copies of the same game, and one you did not pay for.  No, if you own the original game this does not mean you are allowed to use the ROM.

However, it doesn't matter.  They're on the internet, you can use them if you want.  It's really NOT going to harm Nintendo, especially if you are playing old games.  They aren't gaining any money from purchasing the real game anyways.
