doesn't matter in the long run, Blu Ray is just going to be replaced by the Holographic Versatile Disc (HVD) in a few years anyway.

You could say that about everything, 'Ololo, you're an idiot for buying DVD, it'll just be replaced.', 'You're an idiot for buying an iPhone, it'll just be replaced with a better model.', 'You're an idiot for buying that new car, there will just be a new model next year.'. If you always say 'I shouldn't buy that because it'll be replaced in a few years.' you'd never purchase anything.
Yeah that's a really good point.

Well I feel just as sorry for those who bought a standalone Blu-Ray player since it too will most likely fall soon. There is no stopping the pending death of external media, downloadable media is what will soon take over. At least if you got it with a PS3 you got a gaming system out of it.

Doesn't really matter to me.
I'm not breaking the bank for a Blu Ray player and DVDs when I already have a DVD player.

Well VHS lasted for a long time, 1976-2003, DVD started in 1998 only became dominant in 2003 and is now obsolete. didn't last long at all. hot darn I pitty anyone who went to the trouble to update their VHS library, and now have to do it all over again just for HD quality.

And an iPhone....I really feel for the people who bought it right away, only for apple to lower the price like a month later.....besides people only keep cell phones for about 2-3 years at a time anyway or until their plan runs out. They don't last like a standard format because there is no standard phone.

And a car? Cars will run forever as long as you replace parts as necessary...but that is usually too expensive. All those countries that used to be behind the iron curtain use stuff from the 50's they can make them last. Cars don't become obsolete as easy as a format.

I can drive a car from 1983 on a road made in 2005, but I can't play a movie made in 1983 in a blu-ray player now can I?

They did that with DVD...

They re-release movies made before DVD and Blu-Ray can play regular DVDs.
