Introduction

Dragon Quest (Also known as Dragon Warrior in the US) is a traditional turn-based RPG by Enix made popular during the 1980's, with the release of the original on the MSX and NES/Famicom systems.  It quickly became a successful franchise (especially in Japan), rivaling Squaresoft's Final Fantasy series.  Although the first four installments on the Famicom also came to the US on the NES as Dragon Warrior I-IV, the fifth and sixth installments only appeared on the Super Famicom.  Furthermore, the remakes of DQIV on the PS1 and DQV on the PS2 stayed in Japan as well.  However, with the huge success of Dragon Quest VIII worldwide and with the success of the Nintendo DS, the remakes of all three of the "Heaven" series (IV-VI) is coming again, headed by Artepiazza, with V and VI possibly even leaving Japanese shores for the first time hopefully.

Dragon Quest IV Introduction
Dragon Quest/Warrior IV is the first installment of the franchise's "Heaven" series, a total break from the first three titles centered around Loto/Erdrick.

Divided into 5 Chapters, enter a once peaceful world where monsters and mischief are now appearing.  Tales of kidnapped children, the attempt to resurrect an ancient demon lord, a book called the "secret of evolution", a powerful menace whose name is Necrosaro... what do all these mean?  Take the role of five different parties, each going out into the world with separate desires and dreams, uniting in one common goal: to rid the world of the new evils.

Game notes:
-Game is in isometric view a la previous remakes of DQIV and V
-Uses both screens when in town, uses one screen for map when in overworld
-In towns, your stats will be shown on the top screen when idle, and shop menus, etc. will be shown on bottom screen
-Random battles seem to be retained, as opposed to enemy engagement
-World map on overworld can be switched to see the whole world or just your surroundings
-Artepiazza, known for other DQ remakes and DQVII, is developing the remakes
-Music composition is again directed by Koichi Sugiyama
-Battles are 1st person view, with the character info on the top screen. Monsters have animations when attacking.  Great sprite work.
-In battles, party stats are shown on top screen, while enemies and battle menus are shown on the bottom screen as well as a picture of who's turn it is for battle menu selection (which is nice, since it can get confusing when it's all text).

I'll add other information as they come when I have time. ;)

Yeah, was Dragon Warrior in US.  There was some trademark issues back then.

Why is VI coming out before V? and are these remakes or ports? I don't understand why they would make the newest installment on a handheld...IX should be on the PS2, PS3, or Wii, in my opinion.

these are remakes
because squareenix, from what I heard, like to put Dragon Quest on whatever system is most popular, in this case Nintendo DS

1. Most likely because they did a V remake on the PS2 in recent years
2. Whichever is popular. X will probably end up on the PS3 or Wii.

Do you think that Dragon Quest IV will land here in 2008 or 2009?  And what have you heard about that Dragon Quest: Joker game?

blue_slime

I hope 2008 since it will probably take them at least a year to localize it.  Considering that they are going to do the other remakes though, that's gonna be hard to say.

And DQM: Joker is released in NA on Nov. 9. ;D

Yeah, it's like Pokemon, except with better breeding, different story, and this one's in a 3D environment.

I loved Diamond, I played it for 212 hours before I got sick of it, do you have a gameplay video link for Joker?
