i'm of the opinion that you shouldn't vote for someone based solely upon:

1. Age
2. Race
3. "Coolness".

Age was a factor in this election because nobody wants to see Palin as president.  people also saw Obama as "hip", which really doesn't make any sense, because he's what... 48?

people should vote for who they vote for because they believe in the beliefs of said nominee.  that should be their only reason for voting for said elected representative.

in a perfect world.
HA!

I 100% agree with you on that.
That just goes to show you that in America, people thrive on controversy of high level celebrities and people in the Politics.

And for Obama to get praise from popular TV shows, can only help.  ::)

i mean, of the two choices, obama/biden or mccain/palin, I can't say that I would prefer either.  I'm neither happy nor sad that obama won, and I think i'd have the same stance if mccain won.  but the media had a huge influence on this election, and I think they should keep their asses out of it.

obama was publicized as "young" and "trendy", when he made himself into those things after he was publicized as them.  if you would poll all of the first-time voters who voted for Obama, I'd bet a good deal of money that at least 70% of them wouldn't be able to tell you his age within three years.  McCain?  they don't need that rationalization.  "He's old, he's ancient, he has a dumbass vice" is all they would reply.

people should vote for what they believe in, not for the candidate that the media says they should.

and WHAT they believe in, not WHO they believe in.  I hate the party system.

Well, the "young and trendy" idea comes from McCain being 72, and let's face it, he's clearly not well versed in more modern issues, especially the economy.
Voted Obama just because I really hate McSame. I don't particularly like Obama but the POTENTIAL is there for him to be a good president.
Oh, and Mack, we're not going to get universal healthcare anytime soon. The republicans from the south would freak. If anything it would just be a government mandate that forces SOME kind of insureance to be widely affordable so hospitals don't get into any deeper poop than they are now. If you have a plan you'd like to get you can buy that instead. (BTW, McCains plan was give you 5G's and let ya loose. Not a very good plan IMO, only one that wastes money).

Just sayin.

Anything is better than what we are in now.

All I can say is, good luck Mr. Obama, you will need it.

I tend to side more with Democrats usually (which gets me into some interesting debates with my ultra-Republican father), and I do agree with a lot of Obama's views.  Glad he won.

although I like the version I found an mp3 of better than this one.  It has a cool intro and is faster.

although I would say the same, Obama's views benefit nobody except America.  Obama wants to move everything back to America, closing off trade ties, and to reopen the NAFTA agreement.  If he reopens NAFTA, I will be furious.  if he doesn't, he's a liar, but I'd rather have that.

Canadian Business doesn't need any more poop thrown at it.  if Obama reopens the NAFTA agreement, Canadian business dies, and we're officially intercourse ed.

The only reason he wants to open NAFTA is due to struggling business. It's not likely to happen because Canada and Mexico, like you said, will be furious. However, I'm all for re-evaluating our trade policies. I'm not in particular in favor with Obama's views in that regard (I'm all for trade but we need constant changing quotas rather than trying to keep things stable like the world government is trying to do).
Hey, in this financial crisis gotta look out for number one first X_X;;

Your list is a little short, you forgot:
4) Being a veteran
5) Religion
6) Where you live in the country
7) Gender

I could go on and on.  The fact is however, that people will vote on these.  Hell, it's always been based on poop like this.

I'm proud to say I voted for Obama.
Yay. I helped make history. :3
