What will Nintendo do next generation?

They tried something different with the Wii, and it's making Nintendo loads of cash.
What do you think they'll do next? What do think they should do?

I think they should go back to traditional gaming next generation. Sure, the Wii is different, and different types of games came with it. But even into the next generation, the Wii will still be selling plenty. Nintendo will probably keep new Wiis and new Wii games being made. So a more traditional console alongside it would be nice, and maybe help please the hardcore gamers more.
YEAH

since they're doing extremely well, they'll probably get lazy and complacent just like before and release the Wii 2, the only difference being that it comes with the Wii Board, and controllers with built in WMP with graphics that are non HD, terrible online, and gimmicky games...

Tupin

Well, they are going to have to do something different, that's all I can say.

Looking to the past is what Nintendo usually does first when making a system, but I think that a new handheld with the power of the GCN will come out within two years.

Wii 2 will be similar to the Wii but with improved motion controls and a better GPU. A bigger hard or flash drive is also a possibility. A new handheld is possible, but Nintendo's making loads of dough with the DS and DSi, so we won't hear anything until at least E3 2010.

Better idea: virtual reality. :) (What? I can dream).

I doubt that. It may create a new line of people who do nothing after school but enter into their virtual world (replacing the people who do nothing but play WoW and other games of the like). The way Nintendo is going, I would like it if they someday did get the technology together to create a virtual reality. Instead of going back to the traditional gaming style, I want them to invent more motion sensory. They have the materials to make it so moving your head moves the screen in front of you. How amazingly cool would that be? You could control your hands with the motion sensory controllers, move the screen as if you were there, looking around. One day they'll make boots with sensors in them (like the Wii Fit board), so the game will acknowledge when you want to walk forward or run. From there, they can create a virtual reality.

I don't think the civilized world will die off. We'll ease into it. It'll be the next big thing, like RPG's, only much, much cooler. To try and make it less addicting, they can add subscription fees and start it off at a very expensive price (it is virtual reality after all). So yes, one day I hope they do make virtual reality. I'll probably be old with grandkids before they get real headway, or not even alive at all. But one day, it will happen. And I'd like it if Nintendo didn't back away from the possibilities.
I get obsessively manic over things. It's a problem.

If you have enough money to keep you alive in the virtual reality machine, why wouldn't you just stay in your virtual world?  You can do anything you want, it looks and feels real, really IS real, and if you can convince yourself that life is better in your virtual world, there's absolutely no reason to leave.  Everyone who has the technology is happy.  They begin to stop caring that it's not "real", because it is as real as they make it, and they can stay in for unlimited amounts of time.

Also, as it becomes more and more widespread, it would become more and more accessible.  If not, revolts would occur, and the less affluent members of society would take over/kill the people who are involved in their virtual worlds, and there would be nothing to stop them.

Why would the armed forces be in the army if they can live a better life in virtual reality?

Because this isn't the intercourse ing matrix.
True virtual reality is enough to obliterate your mind.
We are nowhere near the technology needed for virtual reality that you describe, and when we have it, it will more than likely kill whoever uses it.

I think video game technology has to take a giant step backwards. Fuck virtual reality, intercourse  motion control, intercourse  the third dimension. We need to go back to 32 bit sprites which looked fantastic and tasted good too. We need to de-volve into a casual generation where controllers had under 6 buttons and you didn't have to worry about intercourse ing lasers and hard drives that could stop working and buttintercourse  your gaming experience.

Re-release the Super Nintendo and start making new Metroid games, new Mario games, new Zelda games. They're all we ever needed anyway.
"I like cigarettes, Mrs. Taggart. I like to think of fire held in a man's hand. Fire, a dangerous force, tamed at his fingertips. I often wonder about the hours when a man sits alone, watching the smoke of a cigarette, thinking. I wonder what great things have come from such hours. When a man thinks, there is a spot of fire alive in his mind-and it is proper that he should have the burning point of a cigarette as his one expression..."

ahh, the "it's years off" argument.

That's not what I'm basing this off of.

True virtual reality, where your mind is not destroyed.  This is what I'm arguing.  What you just said has nothing to do with what I'm talking about.
