Shakespeare
Literature has more and will have more people generally discussing books instead of books most people here probably read due to being forced in school. (I KNOW I DID) + You all would get to see who I pick.

Literature is for sure a topic not supported as much as Bands around here; And Literature is equally as broad. So count 1 down for band and 1 up for other/literature for me.
[21:11] <mackormoses> let's take a look at today's stats
[21:11] <Rosencrantz> stats today are high
[21:11] <mackormoses> holy intercourse ing poop
[21:11] <Rosencrantz> you adding all these standards
[21:11] <Rosencrantz> is really pushing us [/quote]

3 of my friends smoke weed. Why? Well I asked one time, and this is what they said: "Because I can blow out smoke and it makes me feel like a intercourse ing dragon"

The thing is, it's too broad. All of the Shakespeare discussion won't happen because only a couple of people will have it. You won't get, say, Redwall discussion because again, one person. You'll get a bunch of splinters of people that won't make for a cohesive discussion. With Shakespeare, you have common ties that allow the discussion to just flow. Heroes worked primarily because there are only two factions - DC and Marvel (with a HEAVY emphasis on Marvel).

NES will likely work because most of us are fickle gamers that play the same things. Musically, most of us are rock/house making for something that's not terribly broad (how many country artists will there be? Opera? Pop?)

Shakespeare is broad enough to allow everyone a different character and support a wide variety of discussion. It's narrow enough to give itself up to great discussion.

I picked that part out of your post. It caught my eye more than any of your other sentences by far.

Why do we suddenly have to keep our discussion so serious instead of a flow of discussion? With literature we get into things like Role-Playing, which can be fun to just joke around with on this forum. With Literature you can discuss your favorite pieces of literature (Or least favorite). With Literature you can discuss how you got into a book or why you read it. With Literature you get to...Well actually discuss anything with books in general. It's kind of like how NES would turn into general discussion on it or Band week. Sure It's a bit more broad but as long as it works then it works. It's not just for having discussion on one thing. People who aren't as into Shakespeare (Like myself) can participate.

Besides, you all would never guess what I would pick without it. I can let you have 100 guesses and you'd never guess.

And like hell even If It just turned into just mainly fun or so then what would be the hurt in that? Nothing would be lost. It's at least experimentation.

You clearly didn't read the post. Where do I say it has to be serious? I said cohesive...which is a flow of discussion. Please, I'm very particular with my words. The only part of it that isn't mentioned is that it ties together - that's not serious.

Moving on, those general and boring threads don't need a week to be discussed or even promote discussion. In fact, those threads are likely still on the first page of the Arts board. It's uninspired and boring. And again, far too broad in how it goes.

And if you read my post, you'd see why I said Band/NES week would work. I don't feel the need to repost that, as it is right up there.

And how isn't Shakespeare experimentation? You don't think you can have fun with it? Several users have said they would...so I don't see how fun is part of this.

Finally, people who aren't into comic books or heroes didn't participate. Just like how people who aren't into anime don't participate in the board of the month. You can't make everyone happy. Does everyone here read books? Not likely out of enjoyment.

Pet peeve: "You didn't read my post". Uh, yes I did. In the recent years I've never given a "I stopped reading when you said" And also that's the part that came across that I mainly disagree/want to discuss on. Why does it have to be cohesive all that much? Why are splinters so bad? Which was what I was trying to get at.

I'm curious to know. I quite find these so called splinters amusing on this site myself.

...Okay; I admit Literature would be more splintery than Band/NES Week. But this is an assumption that it would be all too splintery rather than looking at what we could discuss with literature in general. (Like the examples I posted)

QuoteAnd how isn't Shakespeare experimentation?
Oh; I wasn't very clear on myself then. I'm a bit biased due to the one where I had to read one Shakespeare book that linked to a certain class I hated last year. I think you remember that "Certain Class". ^___^

I'd still also be fine with a shakespeare week. A shakespeare week would also do the contrary effect of a Literature week - It shows how Broad or how thin we can go. In a technical sense, everything is just experimentation in a way. We might as well just have rob pick a week at this rate soon and goes what he thinks - What's the worst that could happen? Even If any week chosen failed it shows a general preference anyways.

It's just that literature for me comes as more interesting to experiment out; Maybe because it's so broad and discussed.

QuoteYou can't make everyone happy.
You can't but you can go for more users than we would have participating regularly. Literature week would at the very least have more people under that.

He does explain why it would work.  To simplify what he said, Band/NES Week would work well because most people here have similar interests in those regards, while for literature week there would be maybe 2-3 series that everyone has read, or enough people have read to make the posts discussions rather than something along the lines of "Eragon? WTF is that?" (though that series is probably a bad choice for that example), while with Bands you can post a link to youtube, and with NES games the main demographic of the forum makes it likely that everyone will have played the same games (or at least enough people to make discussions work).
