Since this is sort of relevant: I still think that The Arts should all be merged into one (as in, get rid of the child boards and just put everything Arts related into that one board).

But I'm not trying to make this place into a giant chat, and I hope no one takes it that way. Personally, I just think things will work out better if they are less broken down.

That's a progression that I personally see as necessary. Board changes are on the dockett for staff discussion in the near future, but I don't anticipate anything groundbreaking will occur outside of Boards of the Month.

Then why do you say we're not a community? I honestly feel you're insane if you believe that. Even if we're small we're mostly friends and we all love it here. To say we're not a community is offensive. You can't tell me I'm wrong in thinking that.

I've been watching this degeneration go on and on - and one thing i've noticed is that you're always weasling your way into these situations, calling people out on something you yourself don't better. I've watched you try and squirm on to staff, and on to game shows.

I call people out on things I can't do myself that the staff should be handling. Call me a weasel? Whatever, intercourse  you. As for game shows? Survivor is something I'm taking my time for to give the users a game that's fun. I'm even giving them some of my money (albeit not alot, since I don't have much). If any of my players think it was a waste of time, feel free to speak now, I won't be offended.

NSFCD is not what it was, yes, I get that. And no, I'm not the old guard - I'm the guard that's survived an onslaught of change that was stupid. Yes, I merged the boards originally (well, my proposal did) and I saw the effects - discussed ENDED. Permanently. Some were good merges in my opinion, as they consolidated, but hindsight suggests we had markets that we drove to NS2 and beyond.

If any of these merges drove people away, it's because they were done in poor timing. Right now none of out boards other than Nintendo Boards and Power On/RP get enough activity to have to worry about that, in my opinion anyway. Yes, activity will increase by moving things closer together. For about a month. Then, we'll revert to chat mode, and lo and behold, we'll be in the same situation. What I've found about each of these progressions is that they aren't reversible, by any means. And they also share a common goal of seeing rises followed by depressions.

Not necessarily, though possibly and I guess you're right on that. But what you can do with it is make the merges that seem obvious, and when discussion of a particular category picks up, give it its own board. But when it comes to being picky about certain things, it makes people angry or makes them lose interest. Almost all youtube videos we post would hardly count for Arts, and that's a huge reason people don't visit the youtube thread. When you think "youtube thread in the arts" it's just not interesting. Now, if it were in Power On, it'd draw attention.

As for the laziness, it's a horrible thing. March Madness opened my eyes even further as to what NSFCD is now - a state of bureaucracy, cabin fever, and the like that ultimately needs an exterminator to come in and drive out all of the nasty insects infesting it. To call this a forum is naive: hell, Silver agrees with my assertion that NSFCD is, in fact, a chat. Nothing more. Chats can be communities, but we really aren't. We're fragments, at best. Cliques like the Doodle gang, the staff, and every other one. We can't unite it at this point without serious damage. So what do we do? A series of small appeasements to make everyone happy - one side ninnyes to us, we nod, then we listen to the other ninny about them. We try to find a middle ground, but never truly find it because EVERYONE IS UNWILLING TO BUDGE. I'm not against progression, by any means, but I've seen what it does here. And until the user base can handle contributing, our best bet is to avoid it, or better yet, move on to a chat network and let someone else pay the bill for our "community" - rather than draining Silver.

Laziness is bad, yeah, but it's unavoidable. There isn't enough incentive or activity in other areas to make people want to go there, and I understand you're trying but trying to force it down our throats doesn't help that. Aside from the Doodle clique I see that most of us get along. I'm not ready to say that we're not a community, I say we work well together, in fact some of us work better together than you would realize. Ask TK about that and he'll tell you exactly what I mean. I'm very clearly out of touch with all of you though, seeing as you all were so quick to jump in and help Silver. And yet, calls to prove that he should keep NSFCD going results in what...more apathy? It's absolutely embarrassing on every level imaginable.

If you're referring to donating to keep the place alive, most of us can't. We wish we could. We can't. Don't you dare say we're apathetic because we have no way of helping.

Silver and myself slave away to make things great here, and at every opportunity we hear no positives...we see no positives...and we feel like poop.

We've given you plenty of positives. We give Silver positives all the time, and if we make fun of him for the forum breaking he knows we're kidding... or at least I hope he does (sorry if you don't i love you silver). The negatives YOU'RE getting are mostly from not keeping up with your promises and deals, getting our hopes up then letting us down.

By demanding the YT video thread to be moved to PO (as one example) you tell us that our work is meaningless...you're asking us to take NSFCD from what it is and turn it into, as I said earlier, an overpriced chat. That's a horrible thing.

And to put words in my mouth like that is a horrible thing. I made a suggestion that could help the forums. I gave examples and arguments and was totally calm. I got angry when you said we weren't a community, because I truely find that offensive. If you ever take anything as me telling you your work is meaningless, then you're simply out of your mind. The only thing I find meaningless is "Afoot", because you've let us lose interest in it.

What I said is that the users, while coming through on a dollars and cents perspective, give Silver nothing to really keep going - the site isn't worth what he pays for it. Sure, he has friendships from it. All manageable over a free chat. There's nothing here that makes NSFCD what it is, and again I say it, an overpriced chat. The users let us down AFTER march madness by not keeping anything up - if nsfcd means anything to you all, surely you can prove to Silver that the cash he is putting in is well spent. Instead, you're apathetic until something breaks.

I can't speak for other users aside from TK, Skymyl, and a few others, but are you honestly telling me I don't contribute and try to help the place, or prove to Silver that it's worth investing in?

Our posting might not be super-crazy fast, but we still have people log in every single day and post. That's  better than most sites out there. If we don't split things up into a thousand boards, we might be able to get those people posting more. I'll move discussion over to the other thread if you do, but I'm just getting this piece out there.

Or the ~100 other users that log in every day and do nothing. I know they log in, I see them lurk, and I see countless IPs that don't log in (and have accounts I can track) watch. And that's that. Sure, we have a base of users that actively seeks to improve NSFCD...and I'm not seeing how they couldn't be involved in an MSN discussion either. Really, $13 a month is a good price for something Silver could have over MSN for free?

Again like I said, maybe merging certain things and lightening up on certain non-essential rules will be even a slight incentive to post more. The way I see it, with a thousand (exaggerated) boards, most of which are activity-less, when new people (or hell, current users) come around they think we're inactive as a whole. But that's not true. Nintendo Boards and Power On gets attention. If you merge those other boards, they'll seem more active and in turn become more active. Furthermore, you can't expect every single user to be out to improve the boards. On any board most people are there just to discuss what they wanna discuss. That's where us improvement groups, or whatever you wanna call us, come in.

I'll say this, the reason why people use the chat thread is because mods wouldn't allow more individual chatty threads to be made. Mods  could be a little more lax in that regard since we don't have a super huge user base. Though I do think you guys have become more lax in nowadays. And for youtube videos, yall wouldn't allow them in individual threads without a description or post accompanying it, and I'm assuming not at all now since we have the video thread, which caused them to just post videos in the chat thread. And that rule was implemented before we had the youtube tag and we could only link, but we have the youtube tag now and the video title shows up on it when it's used. So if that was the reason for the rule before it really shouldn't matter now or matter as much anyway.

And past mods and past actions did a lot of damaging the reputation of mods here. The whole Genius stuff as well as other things just like it started or continued on by a lot of the mods with no regard to the fact that they were bashing and driving away users. And also heavily favoring the antics of Genius and others that did just like he did. Though I will admit that users on the other side were partly at fault sometime for trying to start something with Genius, but none of it should have continued on for as long as it did. The ones the mods favored got free without even a warning even if they started while the ones they were attacking would either leave after being harassed so much or get banned or have something happen to them anyway.
