My computer got infected with a virus a few years back. We got spysweeper and got rid of it but it left the comp crippled and slower :robotsad: I was wondering if there was anything I could do(other than get it fixed) to make it faster. Tyvm in advance

google Ccleaner, download it, run it.

defrag afterward (Diskeeper Lite is a good one).

it's not google cleaner, :P

CCleaner finds all of the cookies, visited websites (basically your temporary internet files), unused garbage, and stuff, and cleans it out.

it also has a function that gets rid of programs that there are only a little bit left of, under the "issues" tab.  using CCleaner, you can also get rid of the items in the bottom right part of the toolbar (which usually cause problems with start-up).

most windows systems come with a defrag system, I think.  it's not very good, however.

when you defrag your hard drive, you're basically compressing all of your files into a smaller space so that you have more space to work with.

CCleaner is very helpful.

check out that forum post.  I used it to make my computer faster again after some stupid virus that I got.

The "Cleaner" function gets rid of internet files.  basically everything there.  it'll be as if you never logged on the internets before (except for passwords that you have internet explorer remember for you.  those will stay).  it'll empty your recycle bin, your temp files, your cookies, old stuff like that.  if you run it on what it has selected from the start, you should be fine, it's just that all your cookies will have to be reset.

The "Issues"   function is something you have to be slightly more careful with.  it gets rid of really old, unused things, but also unused shortcuts (let's say that you uninstalled Civ 4 a while ago.  it'll get rid of whatever you missed).  It lets you create backups for this function, so it's still pretty safe to use (you can restore backups by double-clicking them).

The "Tools" function you shouldn't mess with unless you know for sure what you want to get rid of.

run CCleaner every couple days, and your computer should stay pretty fast.  Spybot: Search & Destroy is a good spyware cleaner.

Ok.. I ran it but it says the  stuff was "removed" but not "deleted. It still good? Also how do I do the issues thing? I dont have any old games I care for so I can handle having those deleted. Anything else I should be worried about?

Defragging won't delee anything unless your hard drive happens to have a Head Crash while doing it.

Kidding, kidding >_>

If you delete one file in it, Windows can't run.

I'm not even sure if you CAN delete it...
