I, personally, don't care much for country.

BUT WHY THE FUCK DOES EVERYONE HATE COUNTRY? It's hated more than rap - people often say "I like anything but country".

Today's country sucks, obviously. It's screwed over. Rejected popstars from small towns find a new way to money and fame with country. It disgraces what country used to be.

Country began as a white man's blues. There's been amazing artists in country, like one we all know, the great Johnny Cash. Let's also not forget that rock roots in country quite a bit (though it's obviously based much more on blues).

Country doesn't suck. Like all music, some of it does, some of it doesn't. Don't be stupid, people.

yes.  Some of it doesn't suck.

Some of Johnny Cash.

the rest that I've heard does, and there's no reason for me to volunteer to have my ears raped looking for any other good country. :|

It bores me. A song has to have a catchy beat or a shredding guitar track to get my attention.

They're missing out. Some country is undeniably catchy. Some old rock practically is country. Crosby, Stills and Nash? Practically country half the time. The Eagles? Don't even get me started.

One of my favorite newer (90s) country songs, "The Thunder Rolls" (by Garth Brooks of course) will always remain awesome to me, no matter how much some of Brooks' other material might suck.

By the way, why does everyone say that Johnny Cash is their one exception for country that they like? He's not exactly completely different from other country artists.

Plenty of country has both of those qualities. Do you just tune it out because it's country or something? You must not pay much attention.

If someone would get rid of the lyrics, I'd be fine.

Half the time Country music lyrics are just as bad as Rap lyrics.

Trace Adkins
Reba
Garth Brooks (sold more albums than the Beatles)
etc. are all good artists.

Well yeah, most of it is about love gone wrong and constant whining, so when listening to country you need to dig under that stereotype. There's a lot of gems.

...but yeah, there are also country songs that are genuinely horrible. She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy, Honky Tonk Badonkadonk, and Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy are some of the worst songs I've ever heard.

Also, if someone could help me remember the name of that one somewhat old country song about a father and son that were going fishing and the daughter wanted to go too but they wouldn't let her...that would be a big help. I used to listen to it a lot.

I hate it because my parents listen to it, about half of the time on the radio.

In fact, the music my parents listen to on the radio constitutes pretty much every genre of music I despise.

40% of the time: Classical
30% of the time: "New" Country/Country "Rock"
20% of the time: Christian "Rock" or "Pop"
10% of the time: Random other bad stuffs.

Then again, my mom tolerates the stations I like, so I can tolerate hers, but my dad's stations... *shudders at more Country and Christian Rock*

I don't have any friends or family that listen to country, and when someone I happen to be around does, they listen to poop songs like you listed. It annoys the hell out of me. One of my friends had a real good point. "Most music with lyrics would be better without the lyrics". It's true on so many levels. But, if you think about it, some songs just aren't the same without lyrics...

Blech, I'm rambling, so yeah, generic Country sucks. If you got rid of the lyrics, it'd pretty much be Classic Rock without lyrics. Acoustic Guitar, occasional Harmonica, etc.

It wasn't a daughter, as they get married. It is by Tim McGraw....
